I used the offset screw driver only to undue the clip so I could remove the plug. I did not remove the screws you mention.
The owner's manual shows how to remove the filter once the assembly had been removed.
There are no screens. It's a flat paper like sheet glued to the inside, top of the intake assy. You don't even have to remove the fileter to see it. You can see it from the other end.
