You rarely recover the cost of any commodity that is partially used up. You get the options you can feel you might use.
In my own case I was not very price sensitive and I shouldn't imagine you would be either, so a few thousand here, or there wasn't an issue.
It is kind of like when I set up a brokerage, or mutual fund account and look a the options and say, "I'll never use that, and later on when I want to use the option that I thought I would never want, I have to have a Medallion signature guarantee by a bank VP, I say I will sign up for every option in the future.
