2009 and ZR1 Latest Information

Updated news from Zippy, who is at the ZR-1/C4 Gathering this weekend:

ZR1 News:
  • Official 0-60 mph - 3.3 seconds
  • Nissan GTR Ring track time was posted with a running start, not from a stop
  • GM will take the ZR-1 to the Ring with a production ZR-1 and expects to better the Nissan GTR time from a standing start
  • ZR-1 brake system is completely unique to the ZR-1
  • ZR-1 brakes do not have to be heated up in order to achieve full breaking power, that is available as soon as you start the car
  • The ZR-1 will have the gas guzzler tax associated with it
  • GM is expecting 21 mpg highway for the new ZR-1
  • GM is expecting a 4 year production run for the new ZR-1
  • the ZR-1 achieves 320 lb/ft of torque at 1000 rpm
  • The GM Performance Build Center will build all ZR-1 engines in the same manner as they build the Z06 engines


C7 News
  • Release of the new C7 Corvette has been set back due to government regulations, no new release date was given


Updated news from Zippy, who is at the C5/C6 Birthday Bash this weekend:

ZR-1 News
  • Official HP Rating - SAE 638 BHP
  • Official Torque Rating - SAE 604 TQ @ 3800 RPM
  • 12mm stainless steel head bolts
  • 7.5 lb savings via carbon fiber roof panels over the Z06
  • Brembo ceramic brakes - 15.5" front rotors, 15" rear Rotors, 148 sq inch pad contact area
  • Engine governed to 210 mph, GM showed video of 205 mph pass at Papenburg, Germany, Patrick Herman was the test driver, car was extremely stable
  • Price to be announced soon by GM Corporate
  • No 1/4 mile times or Trap speed until car is in production
  • Front splitter is carbon fiber and larger than the Z06 splitter, designed to provide downforce.
  • Zippy likes the look of the hood window, specially coated palstic that will not fade, yellow, etc.
  • Price of ZR1 will include a high performance driving school with Spring Mountain, Skip Barber, or Bob Bondurant. This is not madatory, but recommended by GM.
  • Just over 300 dealers will be allowed to purchase the ZR1
  • 3ZR package, includes power sport seats, both driver and passenger
  • Curb weight (full gas tank and all fluids) 3324 lbs
  • Dry weight 3155 lbs
  • 5.2 lbs per HP ratio (3324 lbs/638 HP)
  • Speedometer will read up to 220 mph
  • HUD will have a boost guage when in track mode


2009 Z06
  • Increased capacity dry sump, 11 qt capacity, same as ZR1
  • On Coupe and Vert, will have variable ratio steering, making it easier to steer at high speeds
  • New cyber gray will be available for 09
  • New option available for 09 in Ebony upgraded interior
  • New cyber gray wheel option
  • Steering wheel audio controls will be standard
  • Bluetooth option will be available


2009 Coupe and Convertible
  • On Coupe and Vert, will have variable ratio steering, making it easier to steer at high speeds

Avis and Hertz will offer a special Corvette Coupe in certain cities, special discount code for $30 off a weekend rental is 107310.
