I had this happen twice.
Pull the tilt lever and hit the lower part of the steering wheel with your fist real hard and it should come loose.
When this happened to me both times, the wheel slipped out of my hand when tilting it up and when this happens, the wheel goes up pretty fast and hard.
Now I kake sure that I don't let it slip.
