Which cam is best 99 FRC???

I bought my 99 Torch Red frc a couple of weeks ago and was thinking about upping the power a bit. It is completely stock with the exception of Borla stingers. Would it be better for reliability to get the zo6 cam or go ahead and find something with even more performance? I drive her everyday and have to have something reliable. Price is a factor too!!

What kind of performance are you looking for? What type of rwhp and torque numbers from a cam/header install?

How much do U want to spend?

I would love to get atleast 360-370 rwhp if possible without too much modification. It is my daily driver now and I have to keep it reliable as I can. If you have any other ideas that work well with a considerably limited budget, that would be great. Im 21 and in college.

I have a very mild cam...I can barely tell its any different than stock...

Its a 224/224 .563 114lsa with dual crane spring kit.

Throw in headers and your looking at around 3500 dollars combined

Should get you 383 rwhp to boot!

I estimated you rwhp on the fact the ls6 heads should be worth about 10rwhp more than an ls1 head. Add in that the LG headers are supposed to be the "king" of all headers in making more power. 383 rwhp is a best guess.

If you go to www.ls1tech.com you probably could see through f bodies where they ended up dependant on what cam they chose ....

HTH...

BTW..if your in school and money's a little tight right now...my opinion would be to leave the car as is until the time is right for you. (JMO)

As it is...your cars capable of 170mph or thereabouts...

I did a budget build on my old 98 Z28 using used mac headers($260) a T1 MTI cam new ($275) valve springs from Comp 150. It put down 380 with stock heads.

I bought a "Test" cam from TSP the 225/589/112 for $275, headers from Jet Hot ($600) and heads (MTI stage 2e) $1500 for my FRC and did all the install myself. Still needs a tune but it runs great on stock tue noi stalling or anything. I be this cam would be fne with stock heads and headers and valve springs for a budget build.

I have the G5-X3 from LG Motorsports. I have been very happy with it. Have not gotten any dyno runs yet with it though.

I wouldn't recommend a stock 2002 Z06 cam as good as it is...

if your spending the labor dollars you might as well a little more agressive. You can still have a civilized car and just get more hp.

Personally, if I stay N/A I'm going to use the Z06 cam with a 150 wet shot. However, if I get anxious to use the PT-72 sitting in my garage, I will be with a reverse pattern "small" turbo cam.

Far from popular belief, you don't need a huge cam to go fast. You need to look at the package as whole. It does cost money to go fast but you don't need to buy THE most expensive parts.
