Photos: WHAT'S UP DOCK???

Dock, I can faithfully admire, bash, and talk big smack about any Porsche I run down on the Autobahn. From Carrera, to Turbo Carreras, to the 4S, to the Cayman.....The only ones left are the new 997 yet to be tested, the GT3RS and of course, the Carrera GT. All of which, I will try my best and if I lose, I lose. But I say this, not only as a Z06 member, but also as a Porsche enthusiast. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a rare 1990 944 S2 Cabriolet in pristine condition with 70,000 miles on it, when it was 10 years old. And, as the fastest stock 4 Cylinder Porsche ever made (3.1 Liter, 16 Valve) I got it up to a solid 170 mph.....Blue book was standing at $25,400. I got it for a toe curling $12,000 out the door. Unfortunately, it was leaving my pockets empty with all the miscellaneous tune-ups, etc so....I let it go two years later for the exact same price I paid. So, DOCK.....This thread is dedicated JUST FOR YOU.....This, is my Porsche "shrine" thread, so you know without a doubt, I don't just bash the Porsche, I was an owner too....Now, I just eat them up on a normal basis.....

PORSCHE KILLER?

Yup.....

You forgot a few, namely the 996 GT2 and 996 GT2 RS. The latter was 612 HP, stock.

However, since your car isn't stock it opens the door to modified Porsches, just to be fair.

Then again, street racing posts are supposedly verboten and last I checked the Autobahn was a public highway. Oh, but of course it isn't in the U.S. My bad.

Since I don't have a dog in this fight, what is my point? It's simply the fact street "racing" is a non-sensical debate, legality and rules aside. The fact is you don't know if the other driver was even racing, or if so how hard they were trying. Although one can claim they "won" what did it really prove?

You have what sounds to be, and from what I've seen, a nice car. Have fun over there and be safe, but don't think for a nanosecond that there isn't a Porsche that can touch it because you'd be deluding yourself.

And yes, I engaged in my share of street races years ago. Those being real races: 1/4 mile standing starts with flaggers and lookouts, for cash or 'pinks'.

Goo dpoints and I would love to meet with the cars I forgot to mention. And believe me, I am fully aware of cars that will walk me easily. I am a very graceful loser. As for the performance ratings of thos eon the street or strip, a win is a win. Whether its by an inch or a mile. Hahahahaha.....And seeing a Volkswagen Polo take out a 650 HP Firehawk is proof enough that, small dogs can tear you up. Its all fun for me. And I never walk off with my head high. I just walk off smiling.....Going back to HockenheimRing Open racing was a sure test to the under powered vehicle I posess. I was getting lapped by several Z's and Vipers, so, again, i am aware of my possibilities and submissions. To me, its just fun. Nothing more. Never any cash involved or any other payout. Just fun. Here, teh Autobahn is open for near unlimited driving in some areas. And the average speed is 100 mph or more. usually, in the "Or more" category. I am just maintaining the flow of traffic...or in some cases.....LEADING IT!

I'll toast to that. I like to say whether you win or lose, always leave the game smiling. I'm glad you didn't seem to take my post as being ...confrontational. I'm not a hypocrit as I tend to "play" as much as anyone, as some here can atest.

You sound like a cool dude and I'm glad your ego doesn't seem to be as big as perhaps I thought it was.

Oh, and take it easy on the Germans. They tend to be a bit stubborn.

NO problem! And its funny to see these Germans whip passed me in their 4 door sedans....Audis, BMWs, etc, all cruising over 100 mph...I just roll with 'em...Sometimes, PASSED 'em.....

Either way, I am still grounded. Thanks for understanding and hope to meet everyone at a fest soon enough.... G

A very cogent post - one that echos my sentiments perfectly.

The 1990 944 S2 Cab had 211 hp and weighed ~3020 lbs. I believe the 4 cylinder 944 Turbo, that made 250 hp and weighed ~2980 lbs, was a little faster.

1 Second faster.....If I may recall, but still, one second is one second. I thought the Turbo was a 6 cylinder....."MY BAD" But the S2 would haul AZZ!!!! And, my post is to show you my love for Porsches as well. When i was a kid, a Corvette was not even on my list of dream cars....It was Porsche, Lamborghini, and then the DeLorean...(Back to the Future) I only looked into a Corvette in 2004. Up to that, it was all Porsche.....And, having one of about 200, I would say the S2 was a much rare car to see or find on the road than a Corvette. I do mis steh S2 BIG TIME, but.....this FRC has taken my mind off it. I ran into 5 guys here in Germany who have the S2 and talked a bit with all of them. All very nice and when they hear I had one stateside, it was even more pleasant conversation. Porsche is awesome, but I love my Vette!
