Most articles say it will be slowed, stalled or even stopped for a while, but will survive. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see another "1983" in the future.
I have always thought of Corvette as its own brand anyway. It doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the Chevrolet lineup....sans the Aveo steering wheel of course. The only place you can find the Chevy bow tie is in the crossflag logo, and you really have to look close to find it.
Adding up all the leftover 2007 and 2008, and all the 2009 unsold, there are 6,730 Corvettes sitting out there today waiting for a buyer.
I'm sure Zippy or someone can tell us what percentage of a year's supply that is.
They should slow down production, or somehow figure out how to sell Corvettes again. I can't see the logic in building thousands of cars that you have to sell at a loss.
Many of us would have bought a new Z06 if the price was similar to the C5 Z06.

Yes the C6Z06 is about $30,000.00 more expensive then the C5Z06. That is why I still have a 2002 Z06. Anyone out there interested in a car company?
The sticker is about $30K more and they were selling for that a few years ago. But now, market adjustment brings the price down to $60k - $65K, right? That's only about $10K more than a C5Z back in the day. I think they are definitely worth that much. The market just isn't what it used to be due to the recession.
But I got my '04 discounted as well, $54 MSRP for $45. So even a discounted new Z06 is almost 1.5X my '04 when it was new.
True. But the C5 line was coming to an end when you bought your '04. The C6 line has many more years left....but then again, maybe not.
Edit: We are in the 5th model year of production for the C6. By the 5th model year of production for the C5 (2001), we were not yet seeing big discounts. I don't think the 2002's were discounted by much either. So I was really comparing the 2009 C6Z market price with the 2001 or even 2002 C5Z market price. In any case, the current economy is a major factor and obviously was not forecasted back in 2005 when GM was setting the sticker price for the C6Z model. But for what it's worth, yeah I think it was priced too high *originally* and GM should not have raised the price subsequently.
Yes, but the C5 Z06 didn't start until 2001, and the C6 Z06 didn't start until 2006, so the 2004 was the 4th year for that model and the 2009 is the 4th year for that model.
Yes I agree the 04 was the last year for that model, and we all knew there would be no 05 Z06. Yes the 04 was a steal at the time. And yes the C6 is worth more money because of all the cool features it has.
