LS1 question

I would like to add a few more ponies to my wife's 02 Convert. I added the Z06 air lid w/ a K&N replacement air filter and that added a little "seat-of-the-pants" improvement. The car has an auto and the standard 2:73 read ratio. I do not want to change gearing. Suggestions for improved performance with this combo?

Re: LS1 question

Full Cold Air Intake (Vararam, Haltech Killer Bee, etc.), Larger Throttle Body, Long Tube Headers (LG Pros or American Racing), LS6 or FAST Intake Manifold, & Tune (following mods) are all good bolt-ons to increase HP....

Installing a set of LS6 heads & cam would also give you a boost, but maybe more than what your looking for...

I live in Tacoma if you want to see/hear my setup sometime, send me a PM....

Re: LS1 question

I know you said you didn't want to do Gears, but that is the ONE thing that would Wake the car up... Cold air would be nice and would keep the engine bay headed air from the motor.
I would rethink about gears and go with a set of 3.42 's... Your not going to see any difference in gas mileage.

Just my .02 worth.

Gears would make a HUGE difference- and you don't have to go crazy and get 4.10s or anything like that. Even if you got 3.55's you'd get a great performance bump and not sacrifice fuel economy. I'd also look into a SLP/Fasttoys lid- Throttlebody (ported), Fast 92 intake (ported), Longtubes, better exhaust and absolutely get a TUNE. All that you're probably looking @ $3500 or so but you would absolutely TRANSFORM that car.

Absolutely- best bang for the buck mod out there IMHO. When I went from 3.55's to 4.10's in my Mach it was like throwing on a 75 shot!!

Hello gears, simple and safe.
I know you stated you didn't want touch them but that would be a huge difference for you........then start bolting on other stuff, headers being next with a tune.
JMO though.

Re: LS1 question

I will agree about the 3.42 gears. also agree on the headers, but with out doing anything to the motor ie, cam, heads and stuff, don't waste your Money on a Fast system 90mm intake or 90 mm TB.. or a ported one, the later LS1's have a Zo6 style intake and it flows pretty good for stock..

Keep it simple, for The Wifes DD... and she will be Happy, and you know what that means

Re: LS1 question

A tune from a reputable person might be all you need..it is also your best bang for the buck anyway. 15-20 rwhp for 400-450 bucks!
