Chevy honors 427 with special Z06 Corvette

Submitted by DennyM

Chevrolet will build only 427 copies of the Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06 for the United States and Canada.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By MIKE D'ORAZIO

As a salute to classic big-block 427 Corvettes from the late 1960s, Chevrolet is releasing the 2008 Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06.

The limited-edition models will be painted Crystal Red. The exterior changes for the limited-edition model include a graphic on the hood and fascia, and "427" badges on the hood.

The 427 refers to the cubic-inch displacement of the big-block motors from the late 1960s and the displacement of the 7.0-liter V8 in the Corvette Z06. The Z06 motor, with the LS7 designation, is rated at 505 hp. Chevrolet says the Corvette Z06 will make the run from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 198 mph.

Other content unique to the limited edition includes chrome wheels, body-color rear spoiler and door handles, custom leather-wrapped interior, Crystal Red interior trim-plate graphic pattern, "427" embroidered seats and floor mats and "Z06" sill plates.

The limited-edition model goes into production this spring, under order code Z44. A total of 427 cars will be built for the United States and Canada, along with 78 cars to be exported outside of North America.

The Corvette 427 Limited Edition Z06 carries a sticker price of $84,195, which includes shipping charges.

Thanks, I've heard rumors about this one, and you just confirmed it.

Love the wheels!

I already had a non-Corvette savvy associate send me a message about the new 427ci big block Corvette that is coming out... as opposed to the existing 7 liter one hehe I say expect this version to spawn amazing urban legends hehe

Another classic marketing move. How many ways can you take the same thing and with a little paint and BS create a new market? Car will no doubt be an eye catcher but I grow a little weary of being delivered the same basic product with a few cosmetic changes at a higher cost. I have no doubts that GM will sell out the entire run in short order. I personally hate to see the Corvette and especially the Z06 turn into "theme cars" like GM has done with some other models.

I like the color and the wheels. Not much into stripes.

You put my thoughts into words perfectly.
With the elimination of the LS7, I'm sure these will be another great way for the stealerships to grab a few more $$$.

Wow, just noticed in the picture that the museum already has it onsite!!

Reminds me of the Orange County Chopper Z by Livernois Motorsport with the Halltech Killer Bee intake. You can see it on the Halltech web site.
