Tracktapes.com has the potential to become a great tool for roadracers everywhere, unfortunately, some basic concepts are lacking.
The tapes range from .5-1.5 hours and contain footage of a lot of courses around the country. Sadly, they are shot using a low quality camera (not Digital) and are very shaky, no stabilization. Color bleed and dot crawl are rampant throughout the tape that will turn off even the most hardened racer.
While there is good racing action, the tape lacks character, evidenced at the end of our demo tape where Chris verbally reams a careless driver, in fact, we suggested that he narrate the ENTIRE tape. He has a good voice, a good sense of humor and frankly he should exploit this to get more milage (forgive the pun) from his tapes.
At this time we can't recommend these tapes as after watching 20 minutes one begins to get seasick from the excessive camera movement, but with that said, Chris has a LOT of potential with this business.
We honestly want to see this product improve as Chris definately can be entertaining as well as a hell of a driver.
Chris, do us a favor, buy a good stabilized Sony or Canon DV camera (preferably a 3CCD model), try a couple of different camera mounts, film in widescreen, and narrate the race. I believe if you take these tips and run with it, tracktapes.com will have a fun and educational tool we can all enjoy.
