I sure hope this is how my story ends. The total for my PS2 out the door at Discount is 1700 but I did upgrade the rears to the max size I could put on under there.....tires are just so darned expensive. My current setup has a bf goodrich on the back and a ps2 on the front that isnt even the stock size...Im assuming that is why my car handles like crap too.
I also hear that the weight on a ps2 is really low....Im going to try and figure out a way to weigh the tires before I have them put on.....maybe bring a small scale into the shop and see.

Agreed. I have had three sets of Kumho's and found them to be a great substitute for the GY F1's. The GY's just suck in the rain IMHO. I am running the Firestones WO now just to try something different and will probably get another set of them when they wear out. They are great for rain and wearing very well.

You can get the tire weights on the specs table on TireRack.com.

Re: What tires should I get for my Z06?

i too got rid of the POS run flats...i replaced the front with falken 452's (to my surpise, they are damn near glued to the road. A great tire!!!)...and went with the GY GSD3's for the rear....MUCH MUCH better grip on dry and wet roads.

Welcome to , Jeff!
Open a new thread and tell us about your ride!
Tire discussions sometimes go to "apples" and "oranges"
Most high performance summer streets range from 180 to 280 thread rating.
Some limited "streets" are 100 thread rating (Toyo, Nitto)
BFG G-Force tires have a strong following ...
Here's an old thread that includes KDW discussion:
Which would you use? BFG KDW-2 or Toyo T1-S tires? or something else.

Thats the tires I had on the back of my car before I got the new PS2's...I can say that those tires would break loose at 60 mph when you gunned it and the new tires dont...granted that could be because they had wear on them but they would pass inspection as required in Texas so I dont really know.

Re: What tires should I get for my Z06?

Well, over the years, I have had several different tires on my Z. The GY F1's, Pirelli PZero's, Nitto 555R's, Nitto 555RII's, and now Hoosier R6's. It all depends on what you want from your tires. If you just want an alternative to the stock performing GY's, I would without a doubt go to the Kuhmo MX's. Can't beat them for the price. If you need more grip and aren't too worried about wear, I think the best "street" setup is Nitto 555RII's up front and 555R's out back. I went to the Hoosier's for more traction, but there is a sacrifice for that extra traction.

I did the Nitto setup you describe. Problem is after about 2K miles the back ones are gone and I am afraid to drive it if it might rain. I'm not sure what to do next. My car will just spin regular street tires in pretty much any gear. The 555R's actually kind of stick which is fun but they are obviously being shredded even while they are sort of sticking. :pp:

Re: What tires should I get for my Z06?

I'll buy Firestone again if I can get down to the wear bar! 24,000 on the rears and still not there yet. Only got 16,000 on o.e.m.s before they started slipping. Also great in the wet conditions. good prices and at 100+ mph who can see the rim protecters anyway.

2k miles?!?! Something is not right unless that includes quite a bit of track time. The 555R's can get easily 10k-12k street miles out of them. I drove to the Z06 Fest and back which was about 2k miles round trip straight highway and had no problems at all. Considering they heated up quite a bit on that trip and still had minimal wear, something does not seem right. You should be getting much better wear than that. Also, I had been stuck in a downpour with them and they did just fine. Of course I did not try to hit the gas with them in the rain, but was able to drive no problem. As long as you are not driving through a ton of standing water, they'll be fine. I actually got stuck in the rain with my Hoosiers and they did better than expected. I have no idea why yours would wear so quickly, but something isn't right.

No track time but I can't say that how I drive this car bears any real resemblance to normal street miles. That's basically 2K miles of fun driving around the foothills and blasts up to 100+ during which the tires are never fully connected to the pavement. So I am not surprised by how fast they went away. I just wish there were an option that would give me similar grip to the 555R's and maybe go 4K instead of 2K. It gets kind of expensive this way.....

Re: What tires should I get for my Z06?

I switched from the F1s to the Wide Ovals because of price. The WO are fine on the street but they are not as good as the F1s on the track. The extra heat seems to makes them slippery and I don't believe the sidewalls are as strong as the F1s, so expect some accelerated shoulder wear.
