I've found this car at a local Honda dealer. They're asking $33K; Edmunds says $28K at a dealer, $26K private, $24K trade-in. What is really a good price for this vehicle? I haven't gone down in person yet, just trying to get an idea of what it's worth before I go see it.
To me it's all about Condition Condition Condition.
I'd say the price mentioned in Edmunds are very close. Maybe a little low for the left Coast.
Here is a couple of threads that make for pretty good reading are there significant differences between 01' and 03' Z06's?

very few responses, and most of those have told me that the car
should be had for $25k -- but i never see them sell for this low, especially in my area.
then somebody provided this nice chart:
Code:
Mileage Range Int/Ext Buy Range
------------- ------- ---------
2002 Z06 20k to 30k Above Ave 27k to 30k
31k to 40k " " 23k to 26k
41k to 55k Average 20k to 22k
2003 Z06 15k to 25k Above Ave 30k to 32k
26k to 32k " " 26k to 29k
36k to 42k Average 23k to 25k
this was after telling me that an '02 should be the oldest car i look at.
so for folks who think these cars are selling at these prices... where are you seeing them? people don't want to go anywhere near that low for me...
Fwiw..I'd go in the area of 29 grand..
if you have the car checked out by a private mechanic.
For that money it sounds like a nice car if it checks out.
Put a REFUNDABLE deposit down if they agree to that price and have it checked out by a qualified Corvette specialist.
a z06 at a honda dealer has concerns for me...could be a car that was a lemon and the guy decided to buy the most reputable reliable car in the marketplace.
I'd suggest buying off the net...either here or at corvette forum...JMO but...
If your staying stock and an 02 is a better car and only a few dollars more. The o2 has the HUD and a little better cam. A little more development from the factory so that would be my suggestion.
Better to spend a little more money up front and buy with meeting the owner or researching the owner on the various sites..
Buy an 02 (not that the o1's are bad) but the difference is so small what the hell...I did a mild cam..I had a rering...I had the 02 clutch put in...I put in the hud...did long tube headers..the 04 shocks..
All said and done..hindsight..a stock o2 would have been less expensive....and just about as quick...give or take a few tenths etc...blah..b lah..blah..
As they say..hindsight is 20/20 so consider my suggestion. Buy a nice 02 and pay a few dollars more. You'll be glad you did.
Check ebay for real transaction prices and then offer accordingly off the various corvette forum sites would be a better way to go..
To Many Miles.look For Something With Less Miles And Never Buy A Used Z Off A Car Lot. Theres A Reason Its There And Dont Believe The Bullshit Your Going To Here.
I don't buy that stuff about not buying a used Z off a car lot.
A used Z is a used Z. I would rather buy a very, very well kept Z off of a car lot than buy one from a guy on a forum that had previously cammed it, raced it, etc, etc, then turned it back to stock and sold it before the wear and tear from all the mods and racing became a problem.
I bought a very well kept 01' Z w/ 45k miles for 28k from a car lot and I am very happy with it. The only things that had been done were re-ring, window tint, shorty antenna, and silver star headlights.
I researched the previous owner, called him and had a good talk about the car. The only "reason" he sold it was that he was just ready for a change of pace after having it so long. He ended up trading the Z in for an 04' or 05' Z71 Tahoe.
I think the main thing you should make sure you do is research the car and previous owner before you buy. I don't think where you buy it matters at all.

Oh, and as far as price is concerned. My car started off @ 30,xxx and it took alot of haggling to get them down to $28k. I looked all over texas at that time and could not find one for under $29k.
If that chart is right, I would like to know where those cars with those prices are.

I don't know what's nice about the chart. It's completely inaccurate.
WOW an 02 with 55k for 20 thou, damn I got ripped on my 01. Seriously that chart is ridiculous. Maybe at some big auction that sells repo's or something. But I have yet to see a Z06 for less than 27 and wouldn't sell my 12K mile 01 for less than 31K.
