I need a car looked at in Hollywood Florida to see if I should buy it. Let me know if you are around...willing to pay a small fee for an honest opinion.
I got this EMail today from a member in Hawaii. I never got to look at the car for him. When I went to the warehouse in Hollywood, the man said the Z06 was not there and in a warehouse in South Miami. Rob bought (sight unseen) the car and here's the Email that he sent me about the car.
Rick,
I am not sure if you remember me, but a while back you were going to do me a favor of looking at a car for me that was wrecked. You ended up not looking at it due to the vehicle being in a separate warehouse area. Anyway, I bought the vehicle last month and am in the process of repairing it. I got it for a pretty good price, and it came with some surprises. The left wheels were replaced and new ones were purchased by the seller. I shipped the car from Florida to TX. I was not able to see the car for myself, but it arrived at my brother's shop. As soon as it was unloaded, he gave it a quick look and took it around the block- he says the motor is very strong-more than a normal Z. My brother and uncle (body repair man) went over it in fine detail to see the damage. I have had to purchase parts, but nothing more than I expected. I ended up getting a new fender, hood, rocker panel and miscellaneous lower front end parts (air deflector, etc). The hood could have been easily repaired, but I got a killer deal on a RK Sports hood with the scoop. It was supposedly a blemish, so I got it for $150, but my uncle said nothing is wrong with it. As for the surprises, here is some of the stuff I did not know was on the car until my brother saw it...head/cam package, Breathless headers, Vararam air intake, carbon air bridge, carbon FRC's, Lingenfelter aluminum intake, and Lloyd's mats. I have since added chrome wheels, a carbon dash kit, breathless shifter, chrome shift knob w/matching e-brake handle, shorty antenna, and a B&B exhaust. The car will also be getting a face lift...The electron blue will remain, but my uncle is using the LeMans silver color to paint the rocker panel area silver, the rear vents silver, and the scoop portion of the hood silver. The radiator shroud, coolant reservoir, and windshield washer reservoir will be getting painted electron blue.
So far, I am happy with the purchase. I could have done without the head/cam package, but oh well. For the price of the car and being able to buy used/take off parts, I am putting this car on the road for pretty cheap. The title is a rebuilt one, but that does not bother me since I know what the car looked like prior to being repaired and the damage was minimal. I am really glad I went this route instead of buying a ready to go '02 because I have been watching the prices drop and am sure they will continue to do so. This care should definitely last me a long while...heck, it currently only has 4800 miles on it!
You asked for pics when I was done with the car....well, the car is not done yet, but I will send pics when it is. For now, here are pics of the car as it was delivered to my brothers shop. I have also included pics of a custom Vette that looks similar to how I am having mine painted. My car will look like this, except it will have the scooped hood painted as indicated by the RK pictured vehicle.
I would have already had the car finished, but my uncle was in the hospital with pneumonia for about a month.
Although Rick was unable to view the car, he made a good attempt and only did not view it because I told him not to worry about it. I felt he went out of his way enough to help me and I did not want to trouble him anymore. Rick even called me a couple of times and kept me abreast of his viewing situation...he also provided some worthwhile opinions and thoughts.
Rick definately helped in my purchase of the Z...something I never thought would happen with the budget I was working under. I was originally shopping for a 00-01 coupe due to costs.
I sent Rick a few pics of the car as it was delivered, and the external damage is minimal. This is a car that I am keeping for myself and is not/never was a plan to buy, rebuild, then sale. This car is for my personal enjoyment so the rebuild title is no big deal to me. You may think I am crazy due to re-sale of rebuilt titles-especially with the C6 coming, but I can honestly say that I will not get rid of this car. Heck, even when I upgrade or whatever, I will turn it in to a fun racer and keep it in our shop with our other race cars.
My only regret is not having service records and the actual internal mods of the engine. My brother found paperwork indicating the numbers for the cam and all, but I would still like to know what exactly was done internally.
If anybody happens to remember an '02 EB/Blk Z in the southern Florida area (Miami) with the above listed mods, this may be the car. The car appeared to have slid sideways into a curb with the front end partially going over the curb. The damage was on the left wheels, rocker, and under the front bumper area (bent metal pieces). The vehicle was sold at an insurance auction and I bought it from the company who bought it at the auction. The accident would have occured in summer/late summer timeframe. I emailed a few places in the area that may have done the work, but I get the standard "Need plate number or previous owners info". Any info would be appreciated...The car may have been spraying (NOS) at one time. My brother has found evidence of purge lines, etc, so it may have made it to a drag strip.
Thanks again Rick for answering the call off of this board from a newbie!!!!
