I agree with dsinned. It better be a least 475hp or I am not going to be interested----especially for the coin that's being discussed.

Rick
I live in CA which is the CAPITOL of dealer mark up. Based on everyone's raving about you I may have to go out of state and take a museum delivery(C6). Therefore, I need to know if you are planning surcharging.

Sorry to change the subject, but "Kelly" did you ever find any LOCAL Ford dealers willing to discount the SVT Cobra a little?

I went to the same dealer (in Redwood City) as you a month ago and was given the usual song and dance about their ridiculous markups. I visited a few others and best I could find was maybe a sticker price deal in the South Bay. I decided to pass. Also, Ford does not offer 0% financing or ANY incentives on any new Cobras (or Mach1s). Hard to understand in such a terrible economic climate.

Swanson ford in san jose (cambell?) Sounded like they would sell at sticker price---but were not to enthusiastic. I know they had a fairly good selection.

Towne Ford is just peeing in the dark. They will have to sell soon. I don't think any one is beating their door to pay a surcharge on a mustang. They have some illusions, not necessarily of reality.

Incidentally, when gm comes out with the 400hp cadillac cvs, they will try to surcharge them.

I think Rick's reply is interesting. Having paid a surcharge in CA on one Z, I will not do it again. Just not worth padding dealers and GMs pockets.

I darn sure won't do it for any kind of stinking mustang.

Kelly, yeah, Swanson hinted at doing a sticker deal for me about a month ago. They only had 2 SVT Cobra counting a convertible, but no Mach1s. So at that time, selection was not so good.

Without a doubt Towne is totally clueless how to sell cars. They actually did have quite a few new Cobras in their outdoor storage lot, however all were just collecting dust, going nowhere fast. I offered to buy one of their new Mach1s they had just got in stock (which I also test drove). But they pretty much blew any chance at a sale when the sales mgr said my LT4 in trade was only worth 4 bills!!! Needless to say, I immediately left the premises.

I just can't understand how dealers around here can afford to be so damn greedy in such a lousy economic climate. Strangely enough they all STILL seem to apply ridiculous markups, especially when it comes to high performance cars, which forces guys like you and me to go out of state in retaliation. Which in turn just makes the local economy worse than it already is.

New subject: Another question for "Kelly". Why did you sell your '02 after only 1100 miles???

It was my third c5 and second z. I just wasn't driving it, and when I saw what was happening to new and used z prices, it was time to sell. It is 1996 all over again with the C6 on the horizon. It is going to be a great time to buy a new 04 Z, and a bad to sell ANY used vette. I already have the money for the C6 Z, but will not buy any first year versions. I may not buy at all if they don't significantly increase HP. After having two lemon 02 avalanches, except for the vette, I doubt I will buy another GM product in my lifetime. Dealers don't care, they cannot fix them---they have not a clue.

It's a great time to buy any Z. 02's with 5K or less, under 40K, 03's low forties, and new 04s at 49 - 50K.

(All prices out the door, at least in GA)

I'm guessing quite a bit low.

Thats $9115.00 diff. right there. Now if the come out with some kind of rebate on the 04 model that will put you over $10000.00 more.
You make a good point for buying an 04.

Point is, buy an 04 now or hang on to what you have until the new Z is out for a year or so. Once initial demand is met, discounts will be back in play.

Point is, whether you buy a new or used Z, you are going to take a beating when the C6 comes out.
