? on a sending unit

First of all, I would like to say I am glad to have come across this site. Really interested in getting together with some people that might be in my neck of the woods.

Alright, I was curious if anyone has had a problem with there 'sending unit'. This is an item that actually measures the level of gasoline in your tank and sends the message to your needle on the dash. I have my car in service right now getting BOTH of them replaced. Once my needle hits a 1/4 tank left, it drops to E. Has anyone had/heard of this problem?

And I guess since its my first thread I might as well add this too. Anyone have a subtle knocking noise when at a stop light for instance. It comes and goes and engine temperature does not effect it. I really don't know how else to discribe it. Just wanted to hear yall's $.02.

Thanks in advance.....

Welcome to the family T-MAN. I think you'll like it here.

Gas tank sending unit failure is pretty common. Lots of us have had this problem. Once the sensors are replaced you should be okay. One of the things that was a problem was the gasoline actually corroding the sensor. I would assume the issue was fixed when GM learned that it was such a common problem.

The noise you hear when stopped at a light may be the infamous "exhaust jingle" that a lot of Z06's are prone to. Something apparently inherent in the system and probably related to the "H" pipe.

If you do a search for both of these concerns, 'gas tank sensors' and 'exhaust jingle', I'm sure you'll find more info than you care to know!

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the site.

Charlie

Thanks Charlie.....damn that was fast. Thanks for the heads up on the search too.. "more info than you care to know" You hit that right. Although you hate to have stuff wrong with your baby, it gives you that warm fuzzy feel'n knowing others are going through the same problem...
