WTT: 1994 Supra TwinTurbo Black 6 spd. for '02+ Z06

Hello,

This is my first post here, and I'd like to say "Hello" to everyone out there. I'm looking to sell my Supra and "touch roots" so to speak by getting back into a domestic. The z06 has nonetheless attracted me Here is the info:

1994 Supra TwinTurbo 6 spd. Targa top. Shiny Black on Tan leather. 83K original mi. The car does have some mods to it(if you're familiar with Supra lingo, BPU+++). Here's the list:

Performance:
New 3" SS downpipe
Greddy Sp exhaust(sounds like a porsche, one of the quietest exhausts for the car)
Greddy BCC
HKS Front mount intercooler
HKS "hardpipe" kit(replaces factory rubber pipes with 3" aluminum ones)
HKS SSQV Blow off valve
Boost controller
AEM cam gears(dyno tuned in)
Alum. FMIC duct

Suspension/handling:
GAB Greddy billet alum. front strut bar
Koni yellow sport adjustable shocks
Eibach springs on the back and H&K's on the front
O.Z. 3pc wheels
Nitto 555R 275/40 DR's

I'm sure there's something I'm forgetting. With these mods, it put down 465rwhp and 457ftlbs tq. Could easily pick up another 20rwhp by purchasing an AFR and dyno tuning it. A very strong running car.

Car is in great shape, and has the cleanest underbody you're going to find on a Supra. It has been in Florida it's entire life, so no rust at all. Front bumper has some stone chips, and there are a couple dings here and there(no more than 5). Car is mechanically perfect. Compression is perfect, all cyl. +/-5 of 170. Tranny shifts perfect in all gears under any circumstances.

I'm looking to get into an '02 z06(must be 02 or newer). Color is not of concern to me. Car must be CLEAN! The lower the mileage, the better. Please email me or call my cell with any questions/concerns. I'm located near Tampa, FL

email: dcc@japan.com

cell: 1-813-766-4400

Thanks, -Patrick

join the club my friend. I sold my 400AWHP 3000GT VR4 for my 02 Z06 and have NEVER regretted it. The most depressing thing is realizing that it took me $10k worth of aftermarket performance mods to make the VR4 just as fast as the Z06 is stock

good luck with your trade, i hope you find what youre looking for.

Dave

How much do you want for your car? Not wanting to trade, just buy.

Blue, I don't know much about VR4's outside of the obvious. I do know that a z06 has ~400hp @ the flywheel which is roughly 375rwhp, and that that kind of power is not so hard to make with a turbocharged car. I dyno'd 407hp(flywheel) in a 300ZX TT that was "stage 4"(chip, exhaust, intake, boost controller). My total investment in the car was $9000 including all mods and the car(69K original miles). This was a while ago though. The Supra is much faster(75-100 more horsepower than a stock z06). At any rate, I do think in the end that I may end up regretting trading my Supra for a z06, but that's not going to hold me back from sampling classic V8 muscle again.

Adam B, I'm asking $27,900 for the Supra outright.

Tempting, thats a lot of power. If I owned the Z to only go fast I would trade in a heartbeat. An 02 Z is valued to high to trade directly over for your 94 Supra, regardless of the aftermarket value thown in it. You might grab someones attention with a trade and cash, its gonna be hard to pry a Z from someones hands. The Supra sounds great, although I do prefer the sound of a V8. Good luck, try Dupont Registry maybe a collector there will be interested.

evil, Why exactly do you own the z06 if not for speed? I know the Supra has it beat in braking, and the z06 nudges it out a bit in handling/weight distribution. I understand that the average price of an '02+ z06 is a couple grand higher than my asking price for the Supra. However, the Supras are much rarer, and if someone where looking for a black 6 spd.(desirable within the Supra community), they may be willing to make a value adjustment. Also, mileage does not scare me on the z06(if taken care of properly), and could make for an even trade for an interested party.

Howdy!

First, welcome and good luck finding your Z06

You'll find from a stock -v- stock comparison, the Z will beat the Supra in every performance catagory (don't believe the old motortrend figures, the Z, on track, will outbrake a Supra). I have some reasonable experience with C5's, the Z06 being my second, and I owned a highly customized Supra built by Titan out of Orlando - in fact, if you received the e-flyer to the BigHP event sponsored by Titan, that's my old car (though semi-colorized).

I ran the same times in my _stock_ Z at tracks like Roebling Road as I did in my Supra with a T04R single, 6P 14" brakes, TRD/Tein suspension, etc. My Supra weighed in at **500** lbs heavier than my Z at the same track scale, so that weight makes a big difference in repetitive braking, transitional manuevers (vs. like the steady state of a skid pad), etc.

All that extra (dyno) power does not translate as well to real world timeslips as the Z's. Power-under-the-curve is where it's at (I know what it's like to drive a peaky 800HP car) so I think you'll find the Z a more pleasant overall driving experience, though it doesn't have that scary/exciting explosion of power a 3L inline 6 with 30PSI of boost gives you! Of course, you don't have to "sell" someone on a Supra, there are enough fans of the car where it doesn't really matter how it stacks up against a car like a Z06 - the limited supply will mean there's always buyers.

If you choose to modify a Z, a few bolt-ons, even a cam, you'll have a 500HP car, that will likely never need retuning, and run with that power on _pump gas_, everyday. Just something so simply elegant about NA power. To be honest, the only thing I miss a little about the Supra was the extreme exclusivity (I honestly don't miss the big HP on a street and road race car), but the Z is a little exclusive among Vette's, and you can certainly choose from a really wide range of things to make your car your own!

BTW, those are some of the highest numbers I've seen on a BPU car, especially considering no AFR/AFC/AEM/e-Manage/Etc. What kind of PSI was that run made on? Are those corrected numbers? I usually see 110+ octane, 20PSI (knowing anything higher is thermally deficient, making more heat, but no more power on the little stock twins) making more in the neighborhood of ~430rwhp/~450rwtq

A really ultra clean '94 might be in the ballpark of your asking price, sounds like it has some nice extras, and the comp#'s are excellent. I had about $80K+ tied up in mine, but of course took a beating on all the aftermarket stuff (I actually think the more that's been done, the less % of return).

Again, welcome, there's some very knowledgable people on this forum - you probably know Steve Theodore, he was a big Supra hardtop guy, went with a SP63 single to do some road racing, but decided to sell (he just did) and go with a Z06 for a daily/weekend DE car, so there's even a few Supra-to-Z converts here as well.

BTW, you probably know Jim at Turbo Toys? He cleared out my garage when I sold the Supra, I had all sorts of OEM parts, he even came up and picked 'em up from me!

Nice writeup DT04R.
Alway's good to read the comparision of two cars from someone who's owned both.
At one time, I was contemplating the Supra TT over the Z.

Glad to see I made the right decision.

Don't mean to hijack, so TTT!

Interesting write-up, DT04R. All I ever hear Steve ranting about are Supra>z06 converts Those numbers were on 116oct. @~22psi with lots of ice on the piping/fmic. The fmic and cam gears made a big difference for me. I agree, an AFR would set the car off performance-wise though. As for Jim, he's a good guy who knows his stuff about the cars. Always nice to have someone around like him who can supply parts when needed, or help you with the car.

Also, when you say that the Supra doesn't brake as well as the z06 on the track, do you think this could be mainly because of the weight/balance difference?

tlaselva, Saying that is a stretch. Like all things, each have ups/down, and trade-offs. Neither car is better than the other, it's all relative to the buyer, and his needs. Bottom-line: Whatever makes you happy.

Hey Bro -

In case you don't know, the Supra Forums has a pretty good For Sale area, and they have a sponsor for the Sale area that's a semi-dedicated Supra online seller. Also, VIP Imports handles quite a few Supra deals as well. All the links follow, hope it helps!

Good luck with the sale, stop back in when you get ready for your Z06 (or already have one!)
