Hey all.
So Ive been running around trying to find a dealer that I would entrust my Z to for warranty work, etc.
Why am I making such a big deal, its just a car, right?
Well, number one, I am like that with any car I own. I like maintaining a good relationship with the people who work on my car, refering people to them, and having peace of mind in the knowledge that the tech guy who did the work knows what is going on, and is back up by a service advisor who knows the car thoroughly.
Number two, Im starting the process of modding the car, and am very concerned about how a dealership will react to warranty work when the car is modded. I had an S2000 with a supercharger, and Autowest Honda in Fremont gave me no headaches, and were a pleasure to deal with. We had a mutual understanding that I wouldnt go out and do stupid shit with my S2000 (beat on it constantly, over rev it, abuse the clutch and diff), and in return I was given first class treatment, and they treated the car like the blower was OEM (tightening the belt on occasion, etc).
So today I talked to Larry at Courtesy Chevrolet in Stevens Creek. My car has developed symptoms of a differential issue. Larry pinpointed the problem immediately over the phone, and I found out that he is on his 8th Corvette (bought his first one when he was 16!!!).
Larry further assuaged my concerns about mods with the attitude that I believe that every service advisor should have. He said that the dealership would not freak out over mods, but if something went wrong, and it was clearly due to an aftermarket modification made, then it would be unreasonable to expect a free lunch, which I completely agree with. In addition, he cautioned me to always let them know if I made any changes to the PCM, so as to prevent them from reflashing it and wiping out a partucular tune.
Why am I so psyched? Because the last service advisor who I talked to at a different dealership told me that you couldnt lower a Z06, and there were no aftermarket air intakes available for the car, because it was already "juiced from the factory."
Since Ive seen a fair number of horror stories in this section, I figured that it would be a good idea to add a positive experience. I am taking the car in tomorrow (Diff seal leaking), and should have it back by the afternoon. I will post a follow up then as well.
So, anyway, two thumbs up to Larry in service at Courtesy Chevrolet, San Jose.
