dealer add-ons

I just purchased my first vette after many, many years of looking at them with envy.

Found a 2003 Z06 with 17,400 at a local dealer, had a local Vette shop check it out. New I was buying it as soon as I turned the key and started it the first time.

They had the salesman babysit me as i drove it to the mechanic, and i must say i was surprised at how civilied it can drive.

I am new to the forum and wanted to ask other experiences on the typical dealer add-ons. I hate buying cars solely because dealers make the process so tortorus.

They pushed window etching, which i S*$t canned from research on buying other cars. They actually had the kahone's to have it preprinted on purchase order.

They are also pushing some hokey acid rain treatment.

Lastly is the extended warranty. I got a quote of $2,903 for 48mos / 50k miles, which i consider ludricous even given the high performance nature of the car.

Any help / ideas to a new owner would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

If you are considering an extended warranty, SHOP AROUND. Prices vary from dealer to dealer. Buy the GMPP plan ONLY. It covers the most and is accepted at all dealers.

Forget about any dealer "installed" paint treatments. "Acid rain treatment"...that's a joke. If you stck around here for a while, you'll get to know all the good stuff to use on the paint, leather, vinyl and tires.

This is a great place to learn a lot and to meet others in your area with Z's. The contingent from NJ are all weird kinda guys so you may want to hang out with the New York guys.

Stick around and learn more than you ever thought you'd know about your new Z06.

Welcome to our world...you're gonna love it.

Charlie

Welcome to Z06vette!

NYChasm says it well...Glad you joined the best Vette site!

You bring up a good point about dealer add on's

Add: wheel locks, interior stain treatments, chrome goodies, exhaust tips, etc....If the buyer desires any of these, fine...just tell the salesman to add them AFTER deciding to buy or lease.

I agree with NYCHASM . I only payed $905.00 for a 48 month 0 deductible extended warranty through GMPP. It does pay to shop around. I would wait for awhile to worry about the add-ons. You can learn a lot through this forum on what works and what doesn't. This enables you to make a more informed decision on what you want. Another good place for information is your local Vette club. It's cheaper to learn from our mistakes. You bought a great ride and welcome to the site.

Welcome Aboard the Good Ship Z06

Those F&I guys can be pretty pushy. My advice is resist resist resist.

Dealer add ons are usually done by a subcontractor and some have agreements that they stripe/paint seal/what ever every car that comes on the lot because of the low rate they are paid per car. I know I've seen add on stickers with pinstripes on cars without any. Just say know even if it's already done they will not usually blow a deal on these charges just use it to look like they are giving you some added value while they try to make a killing on service contracts the real money maker for the dealer. I was the distributor to the little guys that service dealers for years and my original company that I started is now one of the largest in the country for these after market dealer items, we love to sell 'em but you don't have to pay a pushy dealer for options you don't want and did not request.
