14 months ago, I left a deposit for a new ZO6 and received a contract that stated "subject to pricing" because - - as I was told - - pricing and specs weren't even available yet. I was verbally told that the car would be delivered at MSRP, and was told the same when I placed the order for the car in December, 2005.
Now, I'm told that they can't deliver the car to me without a $10,000 premium because they could easily sell it at auction for $15K over sticker (I don't believe this) and there are people lined up who would be happy to pay a premium (yes, I do believe this, but they didn't leave a deposit 14 months ago!).
Has anyone had a similar experience with delivery of their car and, if so, have they successfully fought to get delivery at sticker?
While I have always held a healthy skepticism for the integrity of certain car dealers, I am nevertheless shocked at this dealer's greed and lack of integrity. Call me naive.
This has been brought before about people leaving deposits and then the dealers coming back and saying, well we're going to need X number of dollars above MSRP and yes we know we said we'd sell to you at MSRP, but take or leave it. And unfortunately, it sucks big time. But dealers are there to make money period. It's like the XBOX 360 craze. It was new and exciting. People with money want new and exciting to out do their friends who also have big money. That's what is feeding this. If everyone (people that make 50k or 750k) said no no to above MSRP, then the Z's would be selling at MSRP.

Stock, except for the oil and filter and partition.
Why didn't you write "price will be no more than MSRP" on your contract?

Get an attorney to look at the contract but if it is not written the way Joe stated above well then you got screwed. Tell them since they had no intention of honoring the contract you want interest on that money...at least.

However, XBox retailers sold em at retail - the new owners sold them at uber-markup.
Obviously there is more profit to be made by screwing over a customer on a single deal, than trying to keep the guy around and buying a new car from them every year.
I am guessing based on this treatment the entire US auto industry ii at an all-time high point and stronger than ever, and has no reason to try keep every buyer they can.
These are the times GM should be wise enough to step in and try help preserve themselves.
It again seems that it doesn't make a difference how good of a car GM produces, if the dealer network has no interest in building up a loyal customer base.
The key word is "subject to pricing" . Unless the dealer had written in the contract sale at MSRP, I think the contract is open to what ever price the dealer wants to apply. However, since pricing was not available at the time you submitted the down payment, I don't understand how the dealer could write a contract.
When I ordered mine, I sent the deposit in with a letter of agreement as to the price, MSRP, plus applical state taxes and license fees. The actual contract was not drawn until the car was off the assembly line and a delivery date was established.
Well Craig. I hope you can work this out. Hawthorne has always treated me well. My company purchases about 3-5 vehicles a year from them and I have always had good experiences with them. My vette is also serviced there for any warranty issues and I am always satisfied with them.
By the way, the last time I bs's with my salesman he said they didn't have any allocation for the 1st year. They were hoping for 1 but weren't sure if they would get it as they are not a volume corvette dealer in any way. (This may have changed but I doubt it) Not saying they are right, but if you didn't have it in writing... I can see how they would want to get the most out of the only Z06 they get for the year.
Looks like you need to transfer that deposit over to one of our supporting vendors here. I would never buy my vette from a local dealer here. Most are not sure what one looks like. I bought my 2001 Z06 from Kerbeck before any of my local dealers knew their allocation or any pricing. The interaction was a little less formal and I never met the person that sold me the car. I did museum delivery so i could have cared less who sold it to me. I got mine in Nov of 2000 for 100 under MSRP. For the price you are paying for that car, it is work the travel to go get it from a good dealer that will give a fair price.
