Received a telephone call today from a salesman from M.Price, saying they are currently asking $8K over MSRP...Politely told him I am a very patient man and will wait for MSRP or better in the Spring or early Summer.
People must still be buying these cars over MSRP. I don't understand why... I would never do that. I like my money too much to give it away to a dealer.

There's a thread over on CF about MP. Seems the management (not the poor sales peeps that have to put up with these shennanigans, cause I know they are good people!) ordered stock cars over their list of customers that had put a $2K deposit down. Not a good policy. Tends to piss customers off.
The Sales folks don't set price or policy. Actually the dealership doesn't set price either, only the "asking" price. The actual price is set by the market. There are still a number of folks out there willing to pay MSRP+, and dealers (who are giving away damn near every other car on their lot due to market conditions) are trying to recoup some on the hot selling Z. Once all the folks willing to pay MSRP+ get their cars (soon I suspect), and then the ones willing to pay full MSRP (6-9 months if history is prologue) THEN people like me, who refuse to pay even full MSRP, will be next up for the car.
A free market economy is a wonderful thing, and for those of us who can be patient, we will be rewarded with lower prices.

You are right Les. Not saying they did anything unlawful here since it is a supply and demand system. However, when a dealership does this and has over 100 customers that have paid $2,000 to have the right to be on that list, it tends to leave a bad taste.
Totally agree - the practice sucks, and hopefully customers will have long memories. I am not defending what they did AT ALL!
Before I put a deposit on a car I would insist on a WRITTEN and GUARANTEED price. In some cases that is not possible because MSRP is not public yet - so I would personally insist on a guarantee that I would be charged no greater than MSRP, no hidden fee's etc. etc.

The sales contracts MP had with us stated that MSRP was the price (plus a couple of service charge items) - you do not need to know what MSRP was going to be, that was stated as the price. What MP did (and is doing) is bypassing the waiting list of folks who put up $2000 deposits and ordering cars to be sold to folks off the street for over MSRP. They had an allocation of 41 Z's through December - they are only at #16 or #17 on the waiting list, with many other cars delivered already at over MSRP prices. I hope that clarifies the issues with MP.
Les Stanford and Rick Daniels. I ordered my Z 14/15 months ago, was 42nd on the list. My car has been produced and I pick it up at BG 12/6. Rick promised MSRP and that is what I paid. Appears to me from these posts that some dealers have gotten greedy, are ethically doing the wrong thing by bypassing the "list" they have and selling higher to off the street customeers. Stanford and Rick are "doing what they said they would".
My whole experience with Rick has been great, no hassles, easy with the paperwork, and he delivered as promised.
Anyone know what I need to take to BG to be prepared to pick up my dream car? Also, anyone live close to Elon NC? I need to join a Corvette club.
