*Warning* Knippelmier Chevrolet, Oklahoma
I took my car to the dealership for a very simple procedure. I gave them a printout of TSB#01-05-25-004. All they had to do was follow the directions. Very simple. The TSB is for reprogramming the early 01 Z06 BCM. I do not have the updated software, or I would have done it myself on the Tech II. For some reason the tech that took my car back to the stall felt the need to rev the piss out of it. My car has a 600+ lift cam, LT headers, OR-X pipe, and Stingers. Needless to say it rattles the whole building when they pull it in. After about 15 min of letting the car run, and going through the rpms a bit. I hear them pull out. I walk to the service desk and ask what's going on. We both walk out and the tech says it didn't fix it. I turn to the other guy and he says, "She'll take care of you over there" pointing to the cashier.
At the time I though okay maybe that wasn't the problem. I got home and plugged in the old Tech II. They didn't do a damn thing! The following is the email I sent to the service manager. He would not return my calls.
Bob,
I recently brought in my Z06 Corvette for the attached procedure to be done. The procedure did not fix the problem I was having, but I was charged the standard labor rate of 1 hour. This was a very reasonable price, and coupled with the good things I had heard about the dealership is the reason I drove the 85 miles to your shop. (My wife was also looking for a Tahoe.)
The disturbing thing I found when I got home is the subject of this email. In the procedure it calls for the DE calibration to be updated to P/N 12212175 from P/N 12204887. Before bringing the car to you, I checked the calibration and it was in fact the old and original 12204887. After getting the car back, with the problem NOT solved I began diagnosing again. I found that the 12204887 calibration was still programmed into the Body Control Module and not the new 12212175.
There are two possibilities for this. The first is that my EBCM/ABS was never touched and I got charged anyway, and the second is that the procedure was not followed. It states in the procedure:
Important
The update cannot be performed until fuse #25 (Body Control Module-Ignition 1, Instrument Panel Control) 10 amp is removed from the Instrument Panel fuse block which is located on the passenger's side of the vehicle (under the Instrument Panel and under the toe board).
Without removal of the fuse (prior to requesting information), unsuccessful reprogramming may occur.
I hope that this is the case, and not the first of the two possibilities.
I spent 68.89 for the service. I do not believe that the charge was justified. It would be different if the calibration was in fact updated and it still didn't fix the problem. I would feel like I at least received something for my money, problem fixed or not.
Please contact me at the office (405-736-****) if you would like to resolve this.
