Guess what's coming to Bowling Green Plant?

UAW Local 2164 prez, Eldon Renaud, has said that GM will shift production of the Pontiac Solstice, and Saturn Sky to the BG assembly plant in KY.

Expect the change to begin by 2012. Both cars are currently built in Wilmington Delaware.

GM has not officially confirmed that yet...we'll see after the new contract vote is completed by the rank & file.

Remember, you heard it here first.

Re: Guess what's coming to Bowling Green Plant?

I believe the construction technique used for the corvette, the xlr and the solstice sky should allow for the various lengths and widths to be built in the same factory at a lower cost for all involved.

I don't think the size of the chassis will be identical yet I believe there will be a lower cost of production for all the cars involved if they are built at the same plant.

I believe this will give GM greater flexibility on which cars to produce in whatever volume is profitable..

Remember the solstice/sky utilize hydroformed steel body panels would differeniate from Corvette which uses composite body panels as I am sure your aware..

I believe the next generation of the xlr will go the same route as the solstice/sky and allow the xlr to get smaller body gaps that for many project higher quality than the composite panels presently in use..

Thanks for the heads up Zippy!

I believe if it occurs it will be a win win for the consumers and for GM.

Remember the C6 Z06 was partially made possible because Corvette shared the production facility with cadillac.

I'd say the C6 Z06 is a winner and no less fantastic because cadillac XLR is being produced there..

With cadillac at the BG plant for the past few years did the corvette lose any exclusivity?

I'd say the new C6 is clearly the best vette yet..

Or a Yugo, cheaper than a Veyron and not too many around any more.
