Executive Director Wendell Strode will be in attendance at the upcoming 29th Annual Looking Glass Corvettes - "Vettes on the Rockies" in beautiful Frisco Colorado, August 9-11. The NCM booth will be stocked full of 50th Anniversary merchandise, raffle tickets on both the 50th Anniversary Corvette to be given away during the Labor Day festivities and VIN #1953, a 50th Anniversary Corvette to be given away September 21. C5-R CORVETTE TO BE AUCTIONED AT MONTEREY HISTORIC
General Motors is providing the opportunity of a lifetime to car collectors when it makes, for the first time
ever, a factory Corvette C5-R race car available for auction as part of the 29th annual Monterey Historic Automobile Races at Laguna Seca Raceway. The striking C5-R made its competition debut in the 1999 Rolex 24 at Daytona, where lead driver Ron Fellows broke the existing GT2 (GTS) track record during practice and then finished in third place in its first race. "This racecar is a tangible piece of racing history and also symbolic of Corvette's racing spirit and heritage," said Doug Fehan, GM's Corvette Racing program manager. "Corvette is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and this car was the starting point for an entirely new chapter in its remarkable legacy." The purchaser of the car is welcome to visit Pratt & Miller to tour the facility and to meet with the people who helped engineer and build it. All design elements and workmanship employed in the construction of this car are of the absolute highest order. The auction will be conducted by R M Auctions and will take place at the Doubletree Hotel in Monterey, Calif. On Friday, Aug. 16. The car is scheduled to be presented for auction at 8 p.m.
CORVETTE CELEBRATION PRE-REGISTRATION CLOSES MONDAY, AUGUST 26
Pre-registration for the Corvette Celebration ends Monday, August 26. The 4-day event is scheduled for August 29 - September 1, and anyone wanting to attend the event after the pre-registration close date, must register on arrival. Corvette Celebration event T-shirts can be ordered as an addition to the registration package, and need to be ordered by August 12. The 4-day event celebrates the Museum's Eighth Anniversary with a C-3 "Shark" display, seminars, the prestigious Corvette Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the annual Corvette raffle drawing and much more. A limited number of seats are still available for the Hall of Fame ceremony. Tickets on the 50th Anniversary raffle are available by visiting:
