300 Vettes at Destin NEXT SAT, Oct 27

Addicted on CF but first post here.

SANDESTIN - The Playground Corvette Club will hold it's 3rd Annual Corvette show at Baytowne, located on the bay side of Sandestin Resort, Walton County, near Destin Florida on SAT, Oct 27, 2007.Use the Watertower as a landmark along Hwy 98. The main gate @ Baytowne is across from the tower. To give you a perspective of the resort size, it employs 1,000 people + 600 @ Hilton-Sandestin per Emerald Coast Magazine. Sandestin appears on the latest FL state map.

Organizers are expecting as many as 300 Corvettes, which will be displayed in the village streets from noon-5PM. The morning is for extensive set-up I gather.

Also on hand will be reps from the NCM & the World Corvette Racing Team.

The first two events (w/140 and 223 vettes) were held in Aug and were a big draw. This year will be even better with a re-schedule for Oct to avoid the Aug heat experience of the past.

Brief tips - stay at least a couple of days to allow for a great get-away to the beautiful beaches of South Walton County with your vette.
(qualified later)

Check out the following while there - Baytowne Wharf @ night, a destination in itself, and Sandestin's beach side.

Going east on Hwy 98: new stores/restaurants @ Grand Boulevard one mile on L; Scenic 30A along the beach begins abt 3 miles on R; State park camp grounds at right w/beach access. 30A continues through Grayton Beach & Seaside before it returns you to Hwy 98 near Bay county to your R, home to Panama City Beach, which is totally transformed with high rise condo's.

Going West: huge Silver Sands outlet 3 miles on R. Opposite from the outlets is another scenic road along the beach. It runs abt 3 miles and returns to 98 near more points of interest in Okaloosa County. Destin Commons (to the R) has BassProShops as its flagship. Taking a left (west) on 98 takes you to the best restaurant around IMO, Ozaka on the R (skip the Ozaka @ baytowne). Further west is Destin Harbor and more sights before you hit the Brooks Bridge @ Ft.Walton Bch.

You WILL have fun!

Many thanks for the welcome mat everybody. Glad I browsed in your neighborhood of Z06. I got a referral via a PM on CF. Small world isn't it? VN 67-68 135th Avn; (Daughter VT).

I'm keeping all options open w/o rushing things. Primary preference now is 04 TR Coupe a/t & AO C6 Coupe a/t. Also under consideration: 03/04 TR, MY, Z w/GMPP <10K @ ard 30 for a Z (I let a local bench mark 03 MY Z get away for 30 w/13K in June 2007 & have regretted it ever since). VY & LMB are also color of interest.

Very picky w/ TLC & $$$ since I've had a few too many. Will be @ the show w/my sweet 21-year old bright red. Bought it @35K 3yrs ago from a local Ret Col; now its @ 66. She wants a seperation because I drive her too much.

Re: 300 Vettes at Destin Oct 27

pearlwhite, I met a couple of your Playground Corvette Club members about a month or so ago when you all were doing a Corvette cruise that took you through Pace and Milton. They all stopped at the Sonic off Hwy 90 in Milton. Were you there? I apologize, I am bad with names so I have forgotten the names of the folks I met.

Re: 300 Vettes at Destin Oct 27

County officials are advising of Red Tide that's now on the beaches. The advisory warns beachgoers of the algea bloom's toxin which can attack the lungs and eyes. It's an annual "nature" thing.

Started today, can't say if it will be a problem in 2 weeks.
But you guys are not going to the beach anyway, right?
