I was wondering if any of you guys had been in the past. I was offered tickets but not sure if I want to sit thru a ten hour race. Surely there must be other things to keep me entertained.
Any input would be appreciated.
I plan on going this year. I have never been to the Petite Le Mans, but it should be similar to the Chevy Grand Prix just longer. They had vendors and a couple of different car displays. There are plenty of things to do to keep you entertained besides the race.
Has any members ever been before, I am planning on staying the weekend and want to know what to expect. Also is difficult to follow the race leaders with all the different classes and lap traffic?
I've been before...2 years ago. It was a blast and if you go with fellow Corvette enthusiasts it's even more fun. There are several members in our local club that will be going up this year.
Chevrolet normally sets up a Corvette Coral where all the vettes can park, which is cool. The time I went they also provided a BBQ lunch. There should be vendors, a car show and food booths just like at the carni!
Not hard at all to follow the leaders. There are green lights on the side of the car which illuminate their respective positions in the class.

Please inform me if anyone is going to make it to Atlanta. I have never been but would love to go. I obviously dont know anyone there so it would be nice to meet up with some Vette guys there. Thanks.
Well, we can make this the official "Who is going to Atlanta" thread.
Who's going? Post here!
Moving to Upcomming Events - Southeast section.
We have been for the last three years, both for the spring and fall races. The Corvette Corral use to have worthy sponsors other than the museum. Last year sucked as it was GM sponsored (as someone got their feelings hurt). No meals, just drinks that ran out early and were not replaced.
But all said and done, we'll be there for all 4 days and the race. Wouldn't miss it.

To learn more about the event, just do a google search.
When you order your tickets, you must specify Corvette Coral to get in free, otherwise they will charge you $25 (last years price), unless you know the man (I don't know who that is either)
4-Day : (Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sat) Includes Paddock Access Super Ticket $75 advance $85 gate

All this sounds great, but I have a short attention span. Will I get bored over the weekend and more importantly during the race? What do you advise for accomodations, are there campsites available...

Thanks in advance.
That's why I just go the day of the race. I don't watch the race all day though. I walk around, look at the , talk with people I know and people I don't know. Walk around the track at least once which is good exercise, lot's of hills! You need to go cuz it's all good!
Camping is allowed during the races. If you want a hotel there are a few down the road in Braselton like Chateau Elan or Hampton Inn. There is always something to do during the race. Walk around the track and just take in all the scenery. If you go to the race you will have a good time.
However, I will not drive my Z06. There just isn't enough storage for all the stuff I need to bring. I'll bring camping items ($50 charge), a grill, and my ATV (extra $25).
I'll pack everything that I may need (water, food, battery powered lighting, and beer ). I usually go over to the showers late at night (otherwise it's hard to get hot water).
You may find it hard to get a hotel room nearby. The race teams and sponsors usually book them well in advance of the race.
I enjoy walking through the paddock early in the weekend (the crews are too busy by Saturday). After the green flag falls, I usually hang out around the different corners to watch the racing (T-1 > T-7, T-10ab). I also plan to visit the Corvette Corral (albeit in a red ATV). The SCCA WC race should be interesting (several Corvettes).
See ya at the track.
