Good luck. A friend got a reckless driving (82 in a 55) on the Dulles tollroad. With a lawyer he got 6 months not allowed to drive in VA (he lives in MD). The guy in court infront of him with no lawyer and living in VA lost his license for 6 months.
On a side note- still got the vette? I know you were thinking about selling it a while ago.
my wife got a wreckless/speeding in wythville va.
84 in a 60
hired a lawyer $250
Court cost $76.
he requested copy of state driving record.. (clean) and copy of drivers license
we didn't even attend court
all dismissed, paid $ 75 to their county defensive driving school. Had to attend an "apprived" dirving school in our state. $ 75. 8 hours on saturday.
all is done !
no points on license here.
expensive..
but lucky

When you check out a lawyer, make sure he is either an ex-DA or has ties to the prosecutor in some way, shape or form.
He should lay out the plan. How much your going to pay without pleading guilty to points. If he waffles, get another lawyer. Be aware, there are lawyers that will tell you one story and as your case comes up, will tell you that your screwed -- but he still takes all the money.
Check out if there are lawyer advice talk shows on the AM during the weekend. Go to court and observe. See lawyers and people in similar situations in action. You may get a lead on a good lawyer. Do an Internet search in your area. See if a lawyer or firm has experience in your need. The more informed you are, the better the situation.
Also check out fuelslut.net and post there.

I took mine to court because I knew the scumbag cop was lying. While "cross-examining" him in court, he changed his story and I called him on it. The judge still found me guilty. Must have been his brother or something because, if the policeman changes his story to make himself look right, it should have been dismissed. Sorry-ass bastards. I got slapped with a $381.00 ticket. But, in the end, it never even went on my license. I wonder why....Hmmmmmm.....(And, I ordered a court audio recording of that co_cksucker changing his story for insurance purposes.) My insurance didn't raise a penny. That was a long time ago, but maybe somehow, them a@@holes made my paperwork disappear once I paid in full. Possible? You know, some places are crooked. Look at this situation. I think so......

Good point. If you go against the "boys club" your still going to pay.
Last time I represented myself in court, they put 3 DAs against me, I was the only one with facts and pictures, and after interrogation got the story to change. The judge just said, even with the new facts, I was still guilty.
The ticket did not go against the insurance -- somehow.
I know a guy who got a DUI and leaving the scene. Acquired a major connected lawyer and $14k (yes that's $14,000) later he walks away with a dismissed minor traffic infraction. High cost but still has his license, no insurance increase, and learned a very expensive lesson.
But just goes to show, your going to pay one way or another. It is just far easier if you get a lawyer on the inside with connections and he will make it all go away.
I know this is old but I just wanted to rep Kelly Dennis some more.
He's real cheap, a little flaky, but knows his stuff.
Plus he's been doing this for 25+ years in Fairfax.
Expect to pay him ~$750 for something other lawyers would charge you several thousand.
