The tour covers the southern portion of the west peninsula of Maryland overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
STARTING POINT/TIME:
Solomons Island, MD – waterfront boardwalk – Solomons Pier Restaurant. Tour departs at 11 am. The Pier serves brunch if you want to come early to eat.
Directions to Starting Point:
From Washington DC (PREFERED SCENIC ROUTE), use I-95 Beltway. Take MD 4 through Prince Fredrick to Solomons, MD. Do not cross the Patuxent River bridge. Take the last exit at the bridge on-ramp. Follow the ramp road and turn right at stop. The boardwalk is about 1 mile from the bridge exit. The Pier is the only structure hanging over the water on the right.
From Washington DC (ALTERNATE ROUTE), use I-95 Beltway. Take MD 5 through Waldorf to Mechanicsville. Go straight on MD 235 (MD 5 turns right) to MD 4. Turn left on MD 4. Go about 7 miles to the Patuxent River bridge. Cross the bridge. On the bridge exit ramp turn right to Solomons Island. The boardwalk is about 1 mile from the bridge exit. The Pier is the only structure hanging over the water on the right.
From way south of DC, use I-95 to US 301. Take US 301 across the Potomac River bridge. On the MD side, turn right on MD 234. Take MD 234 to MD 5 at Leonardtown. Continue on MD 5 south of Leonardtown to MD 4. Turn left on MD 4. Go about 12 miles to the Patuxent River bridge. Cross the bridge. On the bridge exit ramp turn right to Solomons Island. The boardwalk is about 1 mile from the bridge exit. The Pier is the only structure hanging over the water on the right.
TOUR ROUTE:
Parade around Solomons Island.
Enter the boat launch area under the tall bridge (stop & look).
Go south on MD 4 across the bridge. Turn right to Boatel California (stop & look).
Go south (right) on MD 4 to MD 235. Continue to MD 5 at Ridge, MD.
Go south (left) on MD 5 to Point Lookout, MD (stop & look).
Return north on MD 5 through St. Mary's City (stop & look).
Continue on MD 5 to Callaway, MD A&W Rootbeer Stand at MD 249 (farewell).
For those who want to sample the local sea food, Evans Seafood Restaurant is about 12 miles south (left) on MD 249 at St. George Island, MD.
