okay i hope you guys dont mind if i post here but i didnt know where else to post. I'm a 19 year old college student attending UCI and am planning on buying a EB Z06. I'm getting a used one with 12k miles on it for $42k. Is this worth it? Also is it a good idea to get the Z06 or should i go for something like the new M3? Does a Z06 fit a 19 year old? or will i kill myself too quick? also i'm looking thorough the forums and dont see much about problems with the Z06. is this a problematic car? or is it plug and play as some may say?
ohh yeah it has a black interior. is there any way to swap that with a mod red?
PJ,
I can't answer for you....but, at 19 I would be long dead....if I had a car like the Z........:(
The maturity factor comes into play....only you and /or your friends, family can tell you IF THEY think you are responsible enough to handle a 400rwhp auto......capable of unbelievable speed/s....and an early death.......
An M3 is no better.............
Yep, a mod red can be had for around 2k..........
And the '02's are pretty much a plug n play.....42 for a 12k mile car is a bit HIGH, in MHO.
Whatever you decide, best of luck....and be careful....VERY.......

Not a bad deal, but not a great one either. If you want the Mod Red int, buy a brand new one for about 46k. Most dealers are coming close to invoice now. Click on the links to the left <----
If you need help PM me.
TAKE A DRIVING SCHOOL WITH IT! For under $300, you can have a great weekend driving the Vette on a road course learning how to drive it!
Some people have good luck with these cars, some do not. I had much more trouble with my 99 coupe than I did (so far) with my 03 Z06.
Welcome to the forum!!! $42,000 is not that great a price for a used EB Z06 w/ 12,000 miles. I believe someone was selling an '02 EB Z for $38,900 on this forum not long ago. I'd shop around, especially if it's not exactly the one you want (you alluded to wanting the mod-red interior). Better deals can be found for sure. As others have said, only you and those who know you well (parents, grandparents, other relatives....friends don't count as they will all say to get the Z!!!) can say if you have the maturity to handle that much power. On your own you may be able to handle it, but can you turn down your friend in the passenger seat who wants to "see what this baby can do" late one night on the highway? You need to be honest with yourself on that one, your life or someone else's could depend on it. Good luck with your decision and stick around, great group of people always willing to help you out!!!
yeah i really think i might kill myself. See recently sold my 00 Eclipse GT with like only 225 hp after some lil mods. I could control the power but not the car. the car couldn't handle worth shit. So i got into a couple of accidents ( about 5). i'm hopeing that the Z would have better handleing. I know my limits but i cant stop myself from racing. i'm always racing around.
okay on top of that i took a Z for a test drive twice. the first time i made a sharp right turn and gased it. the rear jumped and i slowly lost control but i was at low speeds so i got control back quick.
the second time i turned the active handleing off and in first great at about 10mph i floored the shit out of the car. the car totally lost control and was almost about to do a donut. after about 50 feet of swirving around in a residential area i got control back and the guy from the dealer started laughing his ass off.
i'm already off on a bad start but i really want this damn car. and i'm gonna buy it but i'm afraid to. is there any advice you guys would have for me?
i hope i'm not making my self sound really bad here. Im really a good kid. I'm a second year Biology Major at UCI with a damn high gpa that i'm very proud of. also planning on going to med school (UCLA med). but i just have a really heavy right foot and well i'm really still only 19
I'm the same age as you and so I could relate some personal experiences regarding my ownership to date. If the payments don't kill you, the insurance WILL. I don't have any accidents, so that helped a bit but I am pretty sure that it will be hard for you to find insurance for a vette with 5 accidents on your record. I also find myself driving slower in the vette than I do in other cars due to the fact that I'm scared as hell of getting a big ticket and watching my insurance sky rocket even more. Right now I'm currently paying about $1k a month for my regular car payment/insurance but it costs me much more some months because I'm trying to pay down my principal faster on the car and mod money eats up a bunch of cash too.
My advice: If you have the cash and can control yourself behind the wheel, get the Z. If not, then another car with less hp/tq will be a more viable option.
By the way, the M3 isn't a much better option as I believe that the insurance is even worse for that car. Good luck on your choice!

Umm, based on the above I would say NO. Your posts indicate that you lack the maturity to drive/own a Z. You are better off applying your funds to your education. I think Med school is expensive:eek: and there is less of a chance you will die in a class room than in an out of control Z.

pooh,
you answered my queries/ questions to/about you......
I strongly suggest you NOT buy this car YET...
Wait until you get thru school...
You have a LOT of life ahead............live it....with your history with a 225 hp car, you are playing with dynamite....
It takes skill and maturity to handle a beast like this... it's not a play toy. Not only can you hurt yourself, but others too. If you are up to it, that's great! But when you see your insurance rates you will know why a 19yr old in a Z06 is probably considered "high risk".

my insurance company quoted $2100 every six months. so thats not too bad. and payment for the car aren't that bad either. I dont have many bills do at the end of the month so most the money i make i can spend on the car and have a good amount left over.
i know i would drive a bit slower in the vette but i also know that there are going to be times where i'm gonna lose it and just rip it down sunset blvd or the freeway.
why does the vette and some other american cars lack in handleing. my bro has an Audi TT and man i can do anything with it. i can make sharp right turns at like 60 mph and not have to worry about loseing it. for example i just test drove a nissan 350z and tried to lose control but i couldn't. the back tires would just stay on the damn floor. couldnt get it to jump and fly in the rear like i could with the vette
I'd say buy a Z when you're older and don't have that wild hair up your a$$. I'm not putting you down, I was a crazy driver when I was younger too, but I was pretty lucky overall.
Getting a Z now for you would only end up causing you heartbreak; you might wreck it and then you would be stuck with the high payments and a repaired Z.
If you're going to floor it, do it in a straight line on warm dry pavement or at the track. Flooring a car as potent as the Z in a curve is like asking for trouble.
At 19 I was driving a car with a lot more torque than the Z - with no TCS to bail me out. Fortunately, I never even had a close call in that IROC.
But, I had LOTS of supervision, and training. And I MORE than did my share of DUMB shit (175mph in a 55zone comes to mind).
If you can afford the payments, and insurance, go for it with one proviso:
Take as many drivers ed classes as you can. Auto-X the thing, take it to the strip. Just, for the love of god, don't race the thing on the street.
Seriously, even if you don't get a Z and get something slower, I suggest you start auto-xing. Benefits are twofold. One, you get your raciness out in a fairly safe, controlled environment. Two, it will make you a better driver.

$2100 every 6 months not bad? What do you do to make that kind of money at 19?
The Audi TT is ALL WHEEL DRIVE and does not have the Torque that the Vette does. The 350Z does not have all wheel drive, but it is underpowered... for now.
