About to buy an '01 Z06....what to look for?

So I haven't given the guy an answer yet, went and test drove yesterday..it's a 2001 with 30k miles on the clock, only mods are intake and exhaust. I'm aware that some 01's have tranny issues, but this one seemed to shift fine, drives great...just want to know if there are any other things that I should look for before spilling the cash...thanks

Some 01s were oil burners. No way to know unless he comes clean or you buy it and find out later.

Check the front fenders where they bolt to the frame, rear of fender, underneath. You'll need a mirror. They had a tendency to crack and let the bottom of the fender dangle..

Check the drip rails that run along the roof line for cracks.

That's about all I can think of at the moment.

Ok, 2001 first year of LS6 / Z06. There were a few LS6 engines that burned oil. Hard to tell because the cats mask any possible smoke. Most are fine but if you get an oil burner you wont be happy. Some had a problem with the PVC system that would digest oil. Trans same on all other C5 Zo6 cars. Some syno issues with 2nd gear sometimes if the car was beaten badly.

I would suggest looking at all his service records, trips to dealership, get a car fax, and ask him to be honest and tell you if its an oil burner. If its not "and it is probably not 95% of the time" these cars can go well over 100,000 miles with trouble free driving. I own a 02 and love it to death.

Note - I am not trying to scare you away. The 01 Z06 is a fine and fast car.
Just want you to know about a potential issue. If your really interested have the owner allow you to take it to a Vette tuner or GM dealer to make sure you are getting what you pay for.

thanks for the input guys...he doesn't have service records, says that with 30k on it, he's never had to do anything with it. He did say it suffered a light hit in the rear once, but I looked, you cant tell anything, looks brand new. I'll ask about the oil burning, but I think I remember him saying specifically that it doesnt burn. We came to a deal at 18.5k, so not a bad deal at all..
