Any good Nor Cal dealers?

Hey, guys and gals. I'm looking to purchase a silver/black 2002 Z06 and live in the SF Bay Area. Most local dealers I've been to want $5k over MSRP, which is ridiculous. I have a broker friend who can get one for $1k over, but I'm just not willing to pay that.
A few questions:
1) Has anyone dealt with any NorCal dealers that will give decent discounts off MSRP?
2) How about SoCal dealers?
3) I did put a call in to Maxie Price, and they would give me a pretty good discount. What are the registration implications from buying a car out of state? In other words, does the DMV tack on some fee for processing an out-of-state vehicle?
4) Any cheaper way to get a car here than a carrier like Intercity Lines, which charges ~$1,500? (I'm sure I'll get a lot of volunteers on that one! ) I wouldn't mind an open car carrier.
Thanks for any help you guys can give me!

To answer your question . . . in a word . . . NO!!!

Norcal dealers are all bandits. Avoid them! The strange thing is our (local) economy still sucks and everybody's stock option is still in the toilet, yet the dealers all must think we have money to burn. FUCK 'em!!!

Go out of state and arrange for courtesy customer delivery to a Chevy truck dealer out in the boon docks, who generally does not get many C5 allocations, let alone any Z06s.

Proposition that dealer to "host" the courtesy delivery for maybe a few hundred bucks for his trouble if you want to be generous with your money. (Basically, this is a bribe or you might even consider this a big tip for proper TLC of your new car once delivered and prepped for you to pick up and drive home).

Then, go shopping outside of CA. You'll probably need to focus on the midwest or southeast to find a dealer willing to discount. Trust me, there are good deals out there to be had but it takes a lot of work on the telephone (or the internet) to find them.

There are absolutely no consequences from exercising the courtesy delivery program from an out of state dealer. No unusual fees to the DMV, no extra taxes, no hassles at all on a "NEW" car purchase from out of state. BTW, all C5 are already 50 state legal, but you SHOULD make sure the car ordered for you is certified for sale in CA just in case. (This is nothing more than an "option" during the ordering process).

As most dealers are now selling fewer cars because of the law of supply and demand, you should not have to wait more than a few months to snag a car off the assembly line made to order. You might get lucky and get one in only a few weeks, but don't set your expectations to soon. If you get impatient, then you can expect to leave more money on the table at time of sale.

You need to find a dealer with an "unassigned" and as yet undelivered Vett-H allocation, who is anxious to move the car for less of, but still significant profit. Dealer's in CA all expect to make at least 10 grand on each Z06 they sell, some maybe more, but it is abscene how much they make for so little added value at time of sale.

For a "drop ship" whatever the dealer gets from you over the factory invoice purchase price is all profit (no flooring cost). This means he gets to keep 100% of the holdback as pure profit. And contrary to popular belief there is no GM adder cost for courtesy deliveries to other dealers. The same transport (freight) cost on the window sticker applies to all dealers no matter where the car gets delivered in CONUS.

My advice to you is to find where Rick Daniels lands on his feet and give him a call, or contact any of the forum's sponsoring dealers for a quote and stress the fact that you want to do a courtesy deliver to CA. There are some dealers that won't do it, but many will if they need to make a quick sale to meet quota.

I bought mine from a dealer in Illinois (not a forum sponsor) last Summer and got $4k off the sticker, but had to wait for four months to get a new '02 delivered due to allocation issues with that dealer. Still, I did get the car EXACTLY as I had specified in my order, drop shipped and no hassle delivery in CA last Oct.

Call Gary ("Big Dog") at ABLE Chevrolet (800-669-1329) in Rio Vista if you need help finding a cooperative "hosting" dealer in CA. Gary (and the dealership where he works) was very helpful to me and didn't make a dime (off of me) in hosting the courtesy delivery on behalf of the Illinois dealer. Maybe he could do the same for you.

GO FOR IT!!!

Buy out of state. I'm up in the North Bay and one dealer wanted $12,000 over MSRP for a 2001! I bought from Jason at Ross Downing, forum vendor and got a hell of a deal. Basically got a factory ordered 02' QS/Black Z06 out the door less than MSRP.

I did have a problem with the DMV... I had the car delivered via InterCitylines and did not have a CA dealer process the car. Maybe I should have since I need to deal with DMV now. The car was ordered with the CA "50 State Legal Emissions" option but that doesn't seem to matter.

I'm hoping I can take care of this with one visit to the DMV. Of all places to go... I hate going to the DMV. I wish the DMV was run in the private sector. Maybe those lazy old slugs would get some work done!

NOTE: This post was not intended to offend anyone who works for the DMV.
