I forgot to ask... Have you placed the order number into Z06 Tracking so that 1Fastdog can keep track of it's progress? http://www.z06vette.com/seq_add.php
My understanding of the system is that the actual build time is 4 to 6 weeks but the major portion of your wait is for the dealers allocation number to come up.
They can not just order them whenever they want. They have to wait for GM to give them notice that they can order a car. When I ordered the car they told me the same 8 to 12 weeks. They sent my dealer a letter with a 2 week notice to actual order time. I ordered mine in September and the dealer told me he was actually able to order the car in November and that it was 4 to 6 weeks from that point.
I am sure there are others on this forum that know better than me exactly how the system works.
There's no predictable answer to the question. The car takes 3 days on the line to build. How long it takes between your order and the build depends entirely on your dealer's allocations and honesty. A dealer can submit an 'order request' to GM at any time, and get an order number from them. He can give you that number and promise anything he wants. But it's not a *real* order until GM 'allocates' the car to that dealership. Dealers get a number of 'vettes each year that's based on their past performance .. dealers who sell a lot of them get a lot of them; small dealers only get a few. At the time that GM allocates a car to the dealer, the order request becomes a real order, and the car is scheduled for production. That scheduling can also depend on factors like which colors they're building, etc. The order is tagged with a TPW (target production week). Each order also has associated with it an event code (like a status code) that indicates where the car is in the process.
Each dealer knows roughly what cars they'll get, and roughly when they'll get them. A dealer can print out an order status report anytime they want. The event code tells all.

What it be safe to say if there is not a TPW by the last week of Nov. the car won't get built in Dec.?:(

Really, the first question is whether the order has been approved/confirmed yet by GM. If it has, then your dealer can print a report on it and show you the event code (they've been listed here many times and should be available thru a search).
My guess would be if there's no TPW by the beginning of Dec, the car probably won't be built in December... but there's really no
way of knowing anything for sure. Your profile suggests that you're waiting on a Z16 ... if so, there will be additional production delays possible. When I was waiting for mine, the original TPW got bumped 3 times, by 2 weeks each time, just because it was a Mill Yellow car (a constrained color). The Z16 certainly falls into that category.
If your dealer is worth a crap, he/she can tell you everything you want to know. They know roughly what they're going to get, and when they're going to get it. They know how many Corvettes they'll get each month, etc. and if the order is confirmed they can give a close approximation (within reason) to the build date. If you feel the dealer's being evasive, or is unwilling to answer your questions, get suspicious.
Some dealers, especially smaller ones who are just anxious to sell high-ticket cars, will take an order that they may not even be able to fill, just to get you on the hook. They'll enter an order request with hardly a prayer that it'll be honored by GM. They want you committed to the order, and if, months down the road, they still can't get the car, they'll want you to take that coupe or 'vert sitting on their lot. Don't forget that everything is by allocation. Just because John Doe walks into a GM dealer and places an order doesn't mean that GM will build the car. It just doesn't work that way.
Ask your dealer some pointed questions. Is the order confirmed by GM? What's the order number? What's the event code on the order?
BTW, I don't want to insult any of the many great dealers out there. The ones that move a lot of Corvettes are generally very open and informative about all this stuff and are eager to keep you informed as the order progresses.
I really didn't want to hijack this thread but there is a lot of good info thats coming out of it.
They are good people. I've called them every month to check up on it. She has called her GM rep. on several occasions to inquire on my order. She says that she isn't getting solid info from them. So she was going to try to go over their heads to find out. The event code is 1101. It's been like this for a long time. I'm calling her today to see if she has any news. I know I've had this same discussion before, but it doesn't hurt to see if someone else could help.
Thanks

Jerry, i should have said that the order was for a MY MOD/RED. I sure do appreciate all the info you have given to me and the questions to ask. called dealer today and no confirmation from GM yet. the rep was in 2 days ago and was going to check on it. Thanks again Jack.
Z06nut, don't worry about getting in on the questions. your situation is a lot more desperate than mine. can not even think of waiting 5 months for my ride. good luck and hope it arrives soon, hope santa is out there listening.
