Re: Are C5's outdated

I will gladly accept a Jag XKE, Ferrari 250 GTO, or a Lamborghini Muira into my garage next to my C5Z - yeah, their "dated".

Re: Are C5's outdated

I don't really care. To me the 67 roadster with a stinger hood and side pipes is one of THE most beautiful Corvettes ever.

Technology wise, I think you would be hard pressed to say the C5 is dated as the C5 was a big jump over the C4 in dash/hud/tps/DIC/etc. technologies vs. the C5 to C6 jump in technologies.

Creature comfort there was a big jump in the C4 to C5 as the C5 was much quieter, more solid and getting in/out was much easier. The C5 to C6 is another jump as the C6 is much quieter (almost too quiet), the feel of the clutch/shifting is pure heaven in the C6 vs. the C5 but getting in/out is about the same. I know I missed a few things ;-) just a quick opinion and you know what they say about opinions!

My exact sentiments...the C5 can be called beautiful...the lines have set a standard for the C6 and presumably the next generation C7.

Re: Are C5's outdated

I don't think so. In truth, the C5 and especially C5 Z06 have grown on me since getting a C6 Z06. C5 Z06 drivers got more differentiation from standard models than the C6 Z offers. And in "bright" colors that I've seen, the C5 Z is just awesome looking - red, yellow, and some orange that might have been custom?? The area of the B-pillar on the C5 Z06 is nicer than on the C6.

I think to alot of people the changes aren't drastic enough to make the C5 look outdated, me included. Speaks volumes for the C5 design as its 10+ yrs old now.

I kind of hope the C7 makes both C5 and C6 look outdated. A more radical change, like c1 to c2, c2 to c3, c3 to c4, c4 to c5. These were big changes, c5 to c6 is more evolutionary in the aesthetic department I think.

Re: Are C5's outdated

Yeah the C5 is a little outdated, but I still really like the body style except for the big fat butt on the rear. I think the C6 has really nice lines and think it looks better; just can't afford one now.

Re: Are C5's outdated

I actually prefer the FRC style of the C5 Z over the slant back window of the new C6 Z. Hence, keeping mine. Now, if the C7 ever comes in FRC style I may consider upgrade but for me the C5 Z is still sweet and gets tons of looks. I don't think it will ever be outdated if you keep the shiny side up.

Re: Are C5's outdated

I am a first time corvette owner as of last week and i choose a c5z over a new c6. If i had the money i wouldn't think twice about buying a c6z.

I compared both cars on everything and i just couldn't get my eyes away from the back half of the c5z. Car has amazing lines. The regular c5 really doesn't do it for me but the zo6 is a completely different machine.

The interior on the c6 is a bit nicer, as well as the nose.

I just thought to myself, If I buy a new c6 the first thing that is going to happen is I am going to see an c6 zo6 on the road and get all depressed that mine doesn't have those wicked rear fender flares!
I do love my new car though. I am happy to be in the corvette community!

Re: Are C5's outdated

The C6 can't match the beautiful rounded lines of the C5. The rear bumper cap on the C6 is irredeemably ugly;styling it more like the C5's would greatly improve the looks of the C6. And the C6 comes with even more unnecessary electronic junk that will cause problems and recalls, like the side windows having to move with door opening/closing and the keyless ignition.

On to my third vette. C4 and two C5s. Still love the lines of the C5, but the C6 clearly takes the cake.

And, at least in stock form, the C5 can't match the performance of the C6.

So let's go back to manual roll up windows. While they're at it they can return to using carburetors and drum brakes as well.

As far as NAV systems, I can read a map if necessary. Although my C6Z has the NAV system it confuses and frightens me. I asked where the nearest Mexican food was and I ended up in some village in Chiapas.

By the way, I'm not picking on you Redneck Slim. You just happen to have come last and I didn't feel like wading through all the posts before yours. You should feel special and honored.

Lest I forget, someone please define the term "outdated", in a quantifiable and non-subjective manner.

(Hint: No longer current or popular; behind the times; antiquated; out-of-date; old-fashioned. Superseded by something better, more fashionable, or more technologically advanced.)

Is the C5 current (meaning currently in production)? No

Did the C6 supersede the C5? Yes.

Is the C6 "more technologically advanced" than the C5? Yes it is.

Is the 61' Corvair "Greenbriar" van outdated?

Just when is a vehicle considered outdated?

When it is a vehicle no longer said to be "in style"?

Just think, if in all of history only one vehicle was available and its design was never changed it would never be out of style.

Would it ever be outdated?

....Nevermind me. I'm outdated.

I have never seen another Arctic White FRC since the 5 years of owning it. So, YES!!! I love my rare, outdated ride.
