I still think the C5 is a beautiful car.....regardless of how long it's been out. Just like the older Gen 1 and Gen 2 Vipers, older Ferrari's, Lambos etc..... a good looking car is a good looking car, be it new or old.
I agree. The C5 is a beautiful car that will NEVER go out of style. Especially the C5 Z06.
Personally I prefer the C5z over the C6 anyday with the only exception being the C6 Z06 and ZR1. Corvette was made to have curves.
And, at least in stock form, the C5 can't match the performance of the C6.
So let's go back to manual roll up windows. While they're at it they can return to using carburetors and drum brakes as well.
As far as NAV systems, I can read a map if necessary. Although my C6Z has the NAV system it confuses and frightens me. I asked where the nearest Mexican food was and I ended up in some village in Chiapas.
By the way, I'm not picking on you Redneck Slim. You just happen to have come last and I didn't feel like wading through all the posts before yours. You should feel special and honored.
Lest I forget, someone please define the term "outdated", in a quantifiable and non-subjective manner.
(Hint: No longer current or popular; behind the times; antiquated; out-of-date; old-fashioned. Superseded by something better, more fashionable, or more technologically advanced.)
Is the C5 current (meaning currently in production)? No
Did the C6 supersede the C5? Yes.
Is the C6 "more technologically advanced" than the C5? Yes it is.
Is the 61' Corvair "Greenbriar" van outdated?
Just when is a vehicle considered outdated?
When it is a vehicle no longer said to be "in style"?
Just think, if in all of history only one vehicle was available and its design was never changed it would never be out of style.
Would it ever be outdated?
....Nevermind me. I'm outdated.
"What would you guys say about the C5 body style, is it dated?"
The quote in italics above is how the thread starter phrased it. All we are discussing is whether the C5 looks outdated. We are not discussing any other way in which it may or may not be outdated. This thread is inherently subjective....

Ok, the body style alone then...
To me the C5 body style looks dated now. I've always felt there were at least two cars that, when not the latest designs, look dated: Those being Cadillac and Corvette. Ferrari, Jaguar and some others, even when clearly older models, always seem to have more timeless designs, which are often considered beautiful or even works of art. Indeed an automobile body design can be "outdated", yet still be considered beautiful.
As far as the C5 is concerned, that's my opinion and is purely subjective. I owned a C5Z and, at the time, felt it was gorgeous. I frankly didn't care for the C6 appearance until I had one. Perhaps that's one of the keys to our perception: we like what we buy, although sometimes not until after we own it.
And yes, it is subjective. After all, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

Re: Are C5's outdated
I think old Ferrari's look really dated. Pretty, sure, in alot of ways prettier than the new ones. I love the looks of say a 308, but when I see a 308 I don't think "wow, thats a beautiful car" I think "couldn't afford a new one, eh?" It looks cheap and old. Couple of those running around town. Beautiful, but looks old.
I think old 911's also look incredibly dated. The similarity to the new 911's highlights their oldness and robs them of timeless beauty. sometimes older cars suffer for new cars staying too much the same. Old 911s never really look "classic" to me, they just look old.
C5s don't look dated to me, C4s do. C3s are slowly drifting (again just in my eyes) from dated to classic.

i think you are lumping "outdated" and "watered down" together. the reason ferrari and jaguar (and others) may look like timeless designs is because you don't see them being driven around everyday. now its not unusual to see a c5 on the street because the ranks of them are being over run with numbers. i believe being judged "outdated" in most minds is directly related with rarity. imo

They are considered timeless designs because, artistically speaking, they are both intrinsically and subjectively beautiful. It really has nothing to do with their rarity. They were considered beautiful when new and for the most part still are.
That seems to be the general consensus and is not simply my personal opinion.

Again, one has to define what they mean by "outdated". Something may be considered mechanically outdated, for instance the Jaguar XK E type; yet still be considered by many to be a timeless and beautiful design.
I agree that a vehicle that is both beautiful, as well as rare and exclusive, is often more sought after.
To many the C5 was and still is a beautiful design. As I said earlier when I owned mine, I too thought it had beautiful lines. However, once more, when compared to the new generation Corvettes the previous ones appear dated, in my opinion. That is not the same as saying they are no longer beautiful.
Time marches on and something new comes along in every line of business. To me, having driven vette's for 50 years, is the the C5 is the first "real" Corvette, i.e., the first Corvette to be built with Quality--compared to the previous pieces of junk we were sold. Therefore it is timeless. Just my opinion.
