C6, possible C6 Z06 and XLR body style information

Cadillac's 2004 XLR, which has sheet-molding plastic skin will be replaced after ust two model years with a new design rendered in steel. General Motors will continue to build the sheetmetal XLR alongside the next generation Chevrolet Corvette, which continues as an SMC bodied car int he same factory, thanks to a new metal fabricating procedure. The revoltionary procedure is designed to allow such factory flexibility a source says.

The New 2005 C6 Corvette also will get a face lift as early as the 2006 model year another source adds, to allow for some changes that GM product czar Bob Lutz wants made to the sports car. That means the 2005 could be a very rare machine.

Changes to the XLR for 2006 will be significant although the new style will still reflect Cadillac's Art and Science design philosophy.

Still Unknow is whether the Cadillac will offer a V series version of the XLR before the face lift or whether it will wait until the 2006 model year

This information is from page 26 of the novermber Motor trend..

Could be the C6 Z06 they are discussing and not a model wide Corvette change..???????????

I think its the wide body Z C6 they are referring to..

the interesting thing is that the new metal fabricating unit described for the XLR could mean that this car is also a test bed for the entire corportation in much the same way the hydroformed frame rail technology has been for the C5 Corvette..
