CAGS Defeat - I wonder

When I saw the new C5's back in what 99? 98? - anyway, there was a guy who purchased one of the first ones available at the dealership here in San Diego.

He had returned it because somehow, someway he shifted into 2nd at 100mph. Blew the engine apart. he apparently was getting a 50% deal on the engine as Chevy wanted to look at the engine.

Anyway - I wonder if the CAGS is also a 2nd gear LOCKOUT when over 70mph to prevent accidental shifts into 2nd at high speed as well as a fuel economy saver?

I sure would hope that Chevy used it for more than a glorified fuel saver!!!

I have heard of another guy on this forum blowing his engine in 2nd at high speed. Did he have the CAGS defeat?

I wonder....

Nope. But there is a reverse lockout.

That must have been a one wild ride. He over rev-ed the engine to about 9100 RPM before it let go.

I was running along at about 65mph and dropped it into 3rd and punched it. I guess I got a little excited and when I went to shift into 4th..........I somehow dumpped it into 2nd. I did this twice. The 1st time, the car started slowing down so fast that I almost came out of the seat! The second time, I realized it almost right away and pushed in the clutch and let off the gas imediately! Mine had no trouble getting back to 2nd gear at high revs. I felt like a dope. I was nervous that maybe I had done some damage but, I guess I got lucky!
I have since put a short throw shifter in and, it has made me a better shifter!...lol
I don't know why I felt the need to tell anyone all of this other than......I guess there is no reverse CAGS.
