Well I disagree with Guiness. A limited Production car beats it and the Bugatti. That's the MaClaren F1. Granted VERY limited production but still it is a streetable car. Problem is EPA regs require it to be detuned to import to the US.

However some import companies perform the necessary installation of CATs and other smog equipment but include the original parts to the US owner. Some US owners have immediately removed the smog stuff and reinstalled the original Euro equipment and retuned to 1,000HP. So there are in fact some streetable McClaren F1's running around the US with 1,000 HP. That's my winner.

I thought the original McLaren F1 made 627 bhp.

I have a video of the top gear review somewhere - they mention that Gordon Murray went to BMW for the engine and asked for a 550 HP engine that weight 250 kg. BMW came up with a 6.1L V12 engine that produced 627 HP, so Murray wasn't too upset when it ended up about 16 kg heavier than he wanted.

However, they mention that the engine is "non-turbo" in the review, so 1000 HP on a turbo version seems very realistic. I just never heard of anything like that being produced by McLaren.

Bugatti had a 2003 16 cylinder quad turbo with 1001 hp, but I don't think it was released for production. If they had released it , it would have been the fastest production car. Top speed was 252mph, 0-60 2.8 sec. What they did put into production is 982 hp, i believe. I'm 0 for 2.

McLaren produced 2 models, the earlier GTR did have 620+ HP, the later F1 had 1000 HP.

Not according to McLaren. The F1 is a 627bhp car and the most powerful F1 built is the LM which has 680bhp. No 1000hp model made, not even for the race car.

They have only 3 street models, F1, F1 LM, and F1 GT.

No, I'm positive the F1 has a 6.1L V12 producing 627hp. I had just watched the Top Gear video when I made that post above . I've never heard of the GTR though.

Some quotes from mclarencars.com:

"McLaren Cars commissioned the BMW S70/2 engine, designed and built specifically for the F1. This 6.1 litre, quad-cam, 48-valve V12 power unit produces no less than 627 bhp and drives through a bespoke six-speed transaxle gearbox"

"With 680 bhp and weighing some 60kg less than the F1 road car, the F1 LM is the fastest accelerating F1 of all. "

All those numbers they put out are actually estimates. They've never taken the Bugatti Veyron to 252 mph. Of course anyone could say that they've made a car that's faster than the Mclaren F1, but never have any proof. The Mclaren was tested to 391 kph or 242.96739999999997 mph.

If the Bugatti never hit the streets, then it would have to be the Koenigsegg CCR producing 806hp: http://www.koenigsegg.se/thecars/index.asp?submenu=4
