I got back into town on Thursday from spending 2 great weeks on Maui. I did miss my Z06. That was about the only thing I missed(work, ugh!). I took my baby out for a spin and knew not to get on it for the first couple of days as there is that break in period. After a few errands, I was headed to the Smartpass place to get the pass replaced when I approached an intersection, 4 lane divided in both directions, I noticed a car in the inside lane, (me outside lane) trying to make a left from that lane instead of the left turn lane. This blocked the view from the oncoming left turnlane. There was a car just in front of my left bumper and I sped up to let him know I was there and not to cut me off. As I entered the intersection about 35mph, a girl in the oncoming traffic decided she had waited enough and just... turned in front of me. When she saw me she just stopped in my lane. I had nowhere to go. With ABS engaged I was able to steer into her right rear wheel area. Airbags deploy, pieces go everywhere. I suspect that there is about $10k in damages to the right front end. I hit her I am guessing at about 15-20mph.
She admitted fault and was cited at the scene. The guy behind her waiting to make left said he couldn't believe she did that. He thought immediately, this isn't going to work. I got him as a witness.
The car is in the shop at East Coast Paint and refinishers in Manasass. I asked the guy there if there is any chance my baby will be the same as it was before and all he could say was we will do our best. I am hoping that it will be just like new when I get it back but I suspect that something will not be the same. I am sad and pissed at the same time.
Has anyone here had front end damage in their Z06 and it be working like new after it was repaired? Any positive replies would be welcome. Thanks
What a bummer way to come back from a nice vacation.... Sure hope they can fix it like new! If it's just plastic parts and no frame damage, the main issue will be the paint match. Good luck.
If it was a low speed impact like that I'd imagine the car will be fine, and as mentioned above if the body shop does a nice job then paint color matching should be the only obstacle.
Make sure they check the frame for any deformation and that everyting is where it's supposed to be. Make sure a four wheel alignment is done and everything is in spec.
Good luck!

Yes, had front end damage not too long ago. A SUV in the lane next to me lost traction on an exit ramp, hydroplaned and turned facing me in my lane. I couldnt stop and plowed into him. The hood, right front end and all headlight fixtures were destroyed. Frame was OK, no damage to suspension. I used it as an opportunity to upgrade the car, put a raised Ecklers hood on and a Tigershark front end. Looks very cool and drives just as good as before. I know it sucks big time to get into a wreck, but with the speed you were going there should be no suspension or frame damage.
Well, finally heard back on what the damages are and it is around $16,500. Mostly, suspension related to right front. Engine cradle was cracked frame at very front needs spot weld where it was rolled up in collision. The insurance co won't total car because it needs to exceed the 75% of the cash value of the car. The see it as being worth $36,000.
I should have just driven headon instead of trying to avoid it and at most have glancing blow.
The repair shop said it will be 5 weeks. I am trying to get reimbursed for the car payment that I have to make while it is away.
I didn't understand your last post. "Insurance company sees the value at $36,000". It sounded like you were breaking in a new Z06? So the damage would have to be 75% of 75k? To get $36k the value would have to be $48k-Anyway its irrelevant-just curious.
I wanted to write you and tell you that I recently toured a "state of the art" auto repair shop here in Texas that had several frame machines. I was blown away at the level of precision they can achieve with these machines and the measuring instrumentation that they use. I'm betting they can easisly get your car back to factory spec or better.
I would recommend stopping by and checking on your baby frequently. Ask for a tour and an explanation of what they are doing. If you show that you care and appreciate their efforts chances are you'll get a little better service then the customer that doesn't care. Ask to see their frame machine, paint booth, etc. I for one think this stuff is interesting and a far cry from what i used in the 70's! (In fact i was told that my 30 year old DeVilbiss spray gun is now considered illegal!!!)
Best ofluck and hope it all turns out well for you.
That maybe, but let me clear this up. I was not speeding. The speed limit was 35 and I was actually doing 30 before I pulled along side the car to my left. The girl that made the left in front of me was cited in the accident.
