So they figured out what the noise was. When taking off my SLP X-pipe and Borla stingers somehow the welds which keep the hooks that hold the exhaust in place, cracked. WTF I am thinking that some serious presure needed to be put on those in order to crack to the point that I was able to hear that the exhaust was leaking (I at first though i blew my rear end it was so loud). So the dealer called me and said they are taking the car to a muffler shop to have the cracks re-welded. I told them to not bother, and that I would be at the dealer tommorrow afternoon.
My questions are
What kind of mishandling or presure would it take to bust the welds that bad?
what should I do from here (new parts, let em fix the weld).
Keep in mind that this is the dealer that scratched my rockers pannesl so bad they had to be resprayed, and refuses to fix my leaky door seal.
Polar Bear,
What dealer was it?
I have had good luck with the dealer here in Fremont, (Central Chevy) I have talked with him a lot about modding the car and he is mod friendly. What little work they have done on mine has been good.
If they removed the Stingers in the first place in order to do other work, at another time, then they are responsible for the damage to them.
One could surmise they disconnected the Stingers from the exhaust and then tried pulling them down without first sliding them out of the hangers on the rear of the car. This could fracture the tabs on the Stingers resulting in the exhaust leak.
there is no question they are responsible the question is what is the remedy. Do they owe me new Borlas or just fix them. Most case law involving situations like this indicate the car needs to jsut be fixed however I cannot find law on just a part. Eitherway it would be cheeper to just get the part rather than litigate.
Sorry to hear about your situation. You know I know how you feel....
If the welds were done properly, they should not break the weld. I'm guessing that the weld was not proper and it broke. Breaking even a defective weld would likely take moderate to extreme pressure. (your car was abused ) I would request new parts. If you must have it welded, make sure they do it off of the car and they use the proper welding process. Request a TIG weld and watch them do the work.
Sorry Bear, wish i had an easy solution for ya Good Luck on the fix and hope they make it right and you never have to deal with them again. I know you will update us on how it turns out.
Jack
why am I thinking the "million mile" warranty should be talked over with borla at this point.....thats a workmanship defect, I've had my b&b's and the factory ti's hanging by those hangers (forget which of the 3 sets I've had on and off, but I remember having to remove the hanger by undoing the nuts a few times rather than sliding them into the hangers)
I'd bring it up with borla, odds are they're not going to have an up to snuff weld done and there goes your warranty with borla god forbid something else happens again.

okay well that was the first stage, at least the one I'll talk about..
Polar Bear.......Morzoff is right about Central Chevy in Fremont. They have an excellent engine guy (he did the rings in mine) and they are careful with Vettes. They aren't the fastest to get work done...but I've been ok with them.
I wnet back to the same dealer casue they are close and the biggest one. ( I KNOW I KNOW MY MISTAKE)
THe dealer is COurtesy Chevrolet in San Jose
I have not lived in SJ since the early 80's, but these guys were horrible back then. Kinda of amazing they are still in business....
Wonder if they have changed hands over the years...
john anderson bought them about 2 years ago for almost nothing and fired EVERYONE and brought in his old crew from Anderson, whcih is why I took it there. The problem is in the x-pipe which is SLP
as of now they are going to buy me a new one. I will keep yall posted
Larry Thielen is his name. He's a really nice guy, and is actually on his 16th or 17th Corvette. He made me feel like my car was important, which is really what we are all looking for.
See if you can talk to him about it. If it helps any, you can say Oz recommended him.
