[This is a long reply, and is mostly centered around Bay Area dealerships and Corvette shops.]
That's definitely unacceptable.
I'm here in the same area, and will definitely go to a different dealership for repair work.
I believe someone here mentioned Anderson Chevrolet in Los Gatos -- which by the way, "Mr. Anderson" doesn't own Anderson Chevrolet anymore, but now owns Courtesy Chevrolet in San Jose and Morgan Hill. There's also an Anderson Chevrolet in Menlo Park or Redwood City area.
What about taking the GM warranty to a speciality Corvette shop?
There appears to be a good speciality Corvette only shop in Mountain View, right off 85. They work extensively on new Corvettes (C4, C5, and I'm sure C6), including mods. They do almost any kind of work except paint (and perhaps they don't do major or extensive restorations). The owner is a big Corvette fan and builds C4 Corvettes for the Corvette/Viper Challenge racing series. If you guys want the number to the shop, I'll find it again. I may have them do the first oil change -- provided it doesn't void the warranty.
The shop can handle like 3 or 4 (and maybe even 6 Vettes at one time) inside (including at least one lift, and perhaps two lifts or more) and the outside has a gated area for about 6-10 Vettes.
I bought my first Corvette when I was 18 -- first car, first Corvette.
It was semi-custom, and I had this Vette when I was in Florida, and I would have work done at the local Corvette shop that built the car. I'll upload pictures of this car eventually -- it really was an awesome Vette. I still wish I had that Vette

-- it was a huge loss.
It seems it would be a lot better to work with a speciality Corvette shop than the dealership whenever you can, even if it's to ask them for their opinion for a couple of bucks.
I'd rather spend $25-100 for an opinion that I know is not BS than to get the run around.
Like we know, Vettes are a different kind of car. If maintained by the right people, the car will last, look good and perform great for a long time.
If brought to the wrong place, the car will have a greater chance of being damaged.
I've learned a lot since being on these forums, and I'm happy to offer any help and advice I can.
Also, if in the Bay Area, I know of another speciality car shop here. I've been searching for someone who really knows how to paint Corvettes in the Bay Area, and I'm pretty sure this guy may be one of the better or best painters around. Besides a paint shop, he has a motor shop and general repair shop located in the Bay Area (all three shops are in different locations -- one I know is in Pacifica (I think the paint shop), another is in Hayward (I believe the motor shop), and I believe another may be in Redwood City).
If you have any painting needs or issues, I suggest talking to this guy. There's a very good chance I'll have him paint a Vette (not the one I have) in the near future -- and the Vette will be awesome. I won't paint the Vette I have now because I bought it new and I believe it will be the last Vette I buy new, and I want this one as stock as can be.
Sorry for the long reply, I just wanted anyone in the Bay Area to know there's other Vette and car speciality shops.
If you know of any other Vette shops in the Bay Area, let me know. This one in Mountain View I would never have found but by chance.
Good luck with the Vette. If you need any help here in the Bay Area to get your Vette back, let me know.
