Re: difernce between m6 and m12 trans

Primarily the gear ratios....

MN6 - M12:

1st Gear 2.66:1 vs 2.97:1
2nd Gear 1.78:1 vs 2.07:1
3rd Gear 1.30:1 vs 1.43:1
4th Gear 1.00:1 vs 1.00:1
5th Gear 0.74:1 vs 0.84:1
6th Gear 0.50:1 vs 0.56:1
Reverse 2.90:1 vs 3.28:1

In addition, a transmission temperature sensor was added to the M12 to warn the driver via the DIC with a "trans over temp" light if the transmission temperature becomes excessive.

And it still really bothers me that we can't call up tranny temp on our DIC. I can on my 06 CTS-V and its nice to see how the tranny is doing. Also interesting to note how slow the tranny temp comes up on my short daily commute. Rarely see tranny temp over 100F.

Didn't know the CTS-V had that feature. Very cool.

I bet you could see the tranny temp with AutoTap or LS1Edit or the like... Heck, I bet those guys who made the Window Valet could write some added code to make the WV capable of reading pretty much anything out on the DIC. How different is tranny temp on the DIC from, say, getting the Speedo to read out the highest recorded road speed (which the Window Valet thing already does)?

I have both and you can't. AutoTap, although a real-time scanner, does not display that information. The current trans temp is not available on the bus. LS1Edit is not a real-time monitoring app like AutoTap, etc. It can only read and write to the EPROM.

The "TRANS OVER TEMP" warning in the DIC is only triggered at a set temperature of 250 degs. F as I recall and I don't believe any data is sent other than a trigger at that temp.

I agree with Subdriver: It's strange they didn't include that capability, at least with the C6 Z, but they did with the CTS-V. I guess that's one of the differences between a Cadillac and a Chevy.

Be thankful they didn't use "idiot lights".
