Do I Have a LEMON?

My '02 originally dyno'd at 314 (sae). With all the mods I have now (including Magna Charger) rear wheel is 443. My 1/4 mile best is only 12.6 @ 112 (with drag radials), and I keep thinking there has been something wrong with the performance right from the start. But GM just told me that every car is different.
Any suggestions?

Dave,

Your car should never have dynoed at 314. Maybe if you had an LS1 in it those would be acceptable numbers, but a Z06 (stock) should dyno between 340 and 360 RWHP (corrected) There is something wrong in my opinion, but unfortunately since you have already put a Magnacharger on it. GM has their out. Short of finding the wrong engine in the car, I don't hink there is too much you can do now.

GM would most likely tell you to put the car back to stock and then dyno it again. If it still came up exceptionally low, like your numbers above, you could probably file suit for false advertising that the car doesn't produce the amount of horsepower that the manufacturer claims. I think that is what happened to the Mazda people with the new RX-8 that recently came out, and that was the big stink with the 1999 Mustang Cobra as well.

Good luck.

Eric

1. Go to a different dyno.

2. Have a compression check done.

And according to a ET Calculator, 443rwhp at 3300 lbs (guestimate of a full tank of gas and you weigh 175lbs), the ET should be 11.3. So actually none of your numbers make sense.

I know everyone keeps talking about the dyno numbers because they're low, but didn't you guys see his best run was 12.6
with all the mods. That is what you expect from a stock Z.

A stock Z should run that, not a modded one, especially not one with a supercharger on it, unless he totally can't drive, but I don't think that's the case here.

An '02 Z06 producing 314rwhp is a sign that it's sickly. It should do 345-355rwhp stock. Hate to say this, but you shouldn't have done those upgrades on a sickly motor, especially the supercharger. I think your warranty is out the window now.

I would take it to a reputable Corvette specialist shop, and have them check all the fuel and timing parameters with a Tech II on the dyno. Also have them do a compression check. With that much HP missing, something should show up faulty: either timing, incorrect fuel mixture, or low compression. Hope it's not the third one, as it could be costly to fix.

Something doesn't sound right. I have friends that dyno 400-405 rwhp with just bolt-ons.
