Do you change your oil pan with every oil change? (I do)

Today started to be a beautiful day. My wife and I set out on a road rally/murder mystery cruise. A new experience that sounded fun. We're driving all over the foothills around Sacramento, gathering clues, checking out landmarks, trying to put this puzzle together, having no idea where we're going to end up.

We're flying down a beautiful stretch a road following a sedan of some sort, to my right is another vehicle, to my left the center divider (with trees and all that shit). The sedan passes over an almost perfectly round, grape-fruit sized rock. I had about 1.5 seconds to react. Thought to myself, "this thing is going to tear shit up!" My wife and I both braced ourselves, literally lifting ourselves out of the seats in anticipation of the impact.

The rock was big enough that it actually ever so slightly picked the car up as we went over it - no exaggeration. I yelled out
F(*K! F**K! F%)K! while beating on the steering wheel. Drove about a half a mile - to the first safe place to pull over - with smoke billowing out the back and a trail of oil following behind. And I know this is not a good thing, but there wasn't a closer safe place to pull over.

Called 2 tow truck companies - they won't touch lowered C5's. (Hmm, I wonder why? maybe they heard the Winch Hook Stuck in My Oil Pan story from last month) Luckily a good friend of mine has a race car trailer, it's very low. I was surprised how easy it was to get my car up on it. And it looked really cool too Have you ever seen your car on the back of a race trailer? It really looks like a race car. (Sorry, kinda in shock from the day's events). This story is getting way too long.

Went back to the same dealer that fixed the oil pan the last time. Apparently they thought this was funny. The laughter was my first clue. They're going to call me when I get it up on the rack so I can inspect it with them. It might be more than just the oil pan? Saw some tranny fluid too. He said they will pull the motor to really inspect lower half of engine. If we do pull it out, it's getting a cam! (New motor?)

I'll let you know what I find.

g'nite

Dave
(note to self: hitting big rocks is way below average)

Damn! Glad you're OK! Now that you've used up all your bad luck already, time to go to Vegas!

Geez, one would think you would not have a lot of rocks on the road in the Sacramento area. I have been there a number of times. The drive from Reno to Sacramento is another thing.

Sorry to hear about your rotten luck though. Hope you did not do any major damage.

Sorry

I must be lucky enough not to find those segments of road around here . Saw an EB with dealer plates up on Hazel today and thought it was a nice day to be out trolling around.

Maybe while they have it up there you can ask them to grab a skid plate of a Z71 to see if it'll fit

By the way...which dealer do you use?

Man, what a bummer!! I love the look of lowered Z's but I'm afraid to do it just for that reason. I ran over a log (as it appeared from under a panel truck that was in front of me) a few months ago. Same reaction "Oh S--t. No time to react. Luckily I cleared it.
Hope it's fixed soon. Maybe that new cam will help ease the pain.
Good luck

You could call yourself lucky...

...if it was really that big, it might have been thru the windshield ?

Just a thought if you have to write a big check...
