I recently purchased my 02 Z from MP and plan to have a local Chevy dealer service it. Do I need to talk to the local dealer's service people about the proper procedure for lifting a C5, or do they already know? I purchased a set of lifting pucks and will let the dealer use them if necessary.
Sorry if this topic has already been discussed, I am a new member and just learning about the C5 issues.
I would see if they service vette's on a regular basis. They should know and follow the correct lifting procedures for the C5, more than likely they will put it on a drive on rack, so they don't have to worry about tearing up your rocker panels. That's what my dealer does.

It would be a great idea if you asked them. Some Local Dealers only see one New Corvette on there lot per year... It's not safe to assume because they are a chevy Dealer then the know what they are doing when it comes time to lift your car...Doesn't hurt to ask
I'd definitely talk about it with them. Depending on the work being done, they'll offload easy stuff to a moron.

Gary,
I was a tad paranoid on this subject, so before I left for Bowling Green to do my NCM delivery I picked up a set of Jacking Pucks from West Coast Corvettes....Thinking these would only be for an "emergency" lift need. Well we stopped into a Chevrolet Dealer in Oklahoma City for the first oil change......Nice guys, very accomodating.....long and the short of it, I asked if I could go back in the Service Dept. prior to the car going in the air.....Low and behold, they were ready to lift my new baby, with no pucks.....straight on the rockers!
When I asked them if they did this all the time, they seemed puzzled and said ...."Yes"
I pulled the Jacking Pucks out of the trunk, and they acted like they had never seen anything like them
One Tech was fondling them, and his reaction was..."whow, these are cool " (say it like Butthead, it has more impact )
I would NEVER assume anything....we would like to think that "Dealers" should know something as simple lifting procedures, but alas.......
Take my lead, own jacking pucks, and make sure they are used everytime your Z is lifted!
Good Luck!

In the process of purchasing a new 02 Z06 from a local dealer here in Las Vegas, I asked to have it put on a lift so I could perform a thorough inspection. I was shocked as I watched these two guys attempt to lift my future Z06. I finally brought the whole procedure to a halt and took the car without inspecting it. My advise is to watch them and it will only take you a few seconds to determine if they know the lifting procedures for a C5 or not. This dealer sells a lot of Corvettes, but you don't know the experience level of the person lifting your car. It could be a mechanic's helper. It is up to you to protect your 50K investment.
BTW, this is a great lifting procedure for lifting your Z06 in your garage. http://www.z06vette.com/diy_lift.php

I've been to a few dealers and back in 1996 I saw a guy drive a vette off the side of this rack by mistake since the rack was not wide enough.
The guys car was ruined and it was a friends of my dad.
He got a new car out of them 2 months later and 8,000.00 in legal bills. Because all they wanted to do is fix the car
second it stated on the bill of service that they are not responsible to damage ,scratches and so forth... ETC...
Kinda sucked... But he just put his intials on it and that was a loop hole in the court.

1) Find a dealer that has a "drive on" lift.
2) Make sure they will let you stay with the vehicle.
3) Make sure they know proper way to Open/Close hood.
4) Make sure they use fender protectors.
On my first oil change, the tech had never changed oil on a corvette before.
Safer to ask questions first than to be sorry later...
