Downshifting by the book

downshifting on page 2-34 on the owners manual

Do not downshift into the gear shown below at a speed greater than shown in the table below

1st -50mph
2nd-74mph
3rd-101 mph
4th-130mph

if ya do the math, you will be about 1 mph over your rev limiter going into 1st @ 50. 74 in second is about 3-4 mph over the rev limiter in 2nd. And 101 is about 1 mph over the rev limiter in 3rd. Correct me if I am wrong. And even if the values were 1-2 mph under the limiter, why would you ever do such a thing. Your headed south on of the torque curve. And man, you are going to unsettle the car bigtime unless your a master blipper.
I think they maybe should a printed a Z06 specific manual.

BTW I was talking to an instructor at Justin Bell and he told me of a student going 4th to 1st. No floated valves, just one heck of a spin. Remember when in a spin, both feet in, when in doubt, both feet out [feather out that throttle if your in a corner] unless your feelin bonsai, then plant that right foot and pray for traction and smooth weight transfer.

Those instructions are there for the people who need the "lather...rinse...repeat" instructions on the back of shampoo bottles.

I also like the part that says that you may have difficulty driving if you let the rpms drop below 500. I don't recall the exact wording but that is a reasonable (IMO) paraphrase. I guess the writers were related to those that wrote "remove before driving" on my sun screens. Apparantly there must have been someone who sued because they had an accident while driving with the sun screens up?? Like the lady who sues McDonalds for not telling her it might be dangerous to put a scalding cup of coffee between her legs.

Vette TR, they also need to put a section in there about NOT trying to put a Big Gulp in the cup holder full under acceleration.....

Both feet in is a trick I learned decades ago to safely combat and recover from a spin. Both feet in means left foot in on the clutch so as to keep the motor running, right foot in (as hard as possible) on the brake. Theorically, if you lock the brakes the car will go in a straight tangent from that point (altough it will be rotating around center). If the actual vehicle direction is safe (which it normally is if you do it early enough in the spin), this is a good thing. Much preferable to all those spins to the inside tire wall you see on TV. The downside today is that with ABS, you can't always get the results you want with this approach.

Sort of like "blow and go" and hope you do get an embolism.

Good reading skills! I believe the 2003 owner's manual for Corvette has a Z06 shift table that lists 48, 69, 100 for first second and third gear respectively.

That is what I was taught in dirt racing sprint cars as you started to spin. The idea was to get the car to loop quicker and then feather the throttle before it tipped over and before you reached the wall. Sounds easy, but very hard to convince your mind to do it!! When it worked it was pure artistry, when it didn't, it was ugly
