Failed emissions in MD - readiness monitors not set
Hi guys. I hate this emissions BS. What an utter pain in the arse it is. Anyway, it failed today with a 'OBD readiness monitors not set'. I don't drive the car much and I recently charged the battery. Is this the cause? If so, how long does it take to get 'ready', and how can I check the status? I have a Predator, but it indicated no errors.
Thanks for any help guys, I appreciate it as always

I had the same issue in Massachusetts. A few 30 mile trips caused it to finally be ready. It counts drive cycles so after driving 15 miles, shut it down and restart. That will make it ready even sooner.
And there is no way to tell if it's ready with a code scanner.

Chris,
It is a certain number of ignition cycles you need after a battery replacement. Call the ECS guys they can give you a work around I'm sure. You can start the car a bunch of times. By the way I heard through a friend that the Waldorf Test station does not even hook lowered vettes up they just send you around for a waiver. If it is not to far might be worth a try. Don

Thanks Don, I might give that a try. What a pain this stuff is.
Re: Failed emissions in MD - readiness monitors not set
CHRIS,
With the setup I assume you have- either high flow cats or no cats- you are going to have to buy O2 sensor simulators and complete a drive cycle after you install them. O2 sims have become a little tough to find and have become more expensive but you can still find them for under $100. If you google "drive cycle" you can print out the various conditions you need to put the car through to complete the cycle, and go for a ride. Try to complete a few cycles to be pretty sure you've done it. Then go get your sticker.

The error given was that the monitors weren't ready for testing (I disconnected the battery a while back). I just drove it for a couple of weeks or so, and that fixed it. I ended up taking it back to the same place I originally went to (Lindbergh Dr). This time though I talked with a young kid who worked there and he said I could have requested a waiver. Unfortunately I was already half way through the process, so I had to complete it.

Good to know. I will need a battery soon myself. I will have to check the date of my next test. I am getting an Odyssey 925MJT battery.

Is that the one that goes in sideways? Looked like a cool battery. Nearly bought one myself but looked a pain in the arse to fit. These Optima batteries are crap. I'm on my third one. I'd definitely stay away from them.

Yes you can mount it anyway you want. It has a metal case to it but is only 26lbs which is 10 lbs lighter then the optima's. The bracket that they sell for it is another $43 bucks but hey if it lasts the 8-10 years who cares right.

Let me know what it's like. I might end up getting one myself
