Finally finished painting my stock wheels for track use!

I decided to prep and paint my stock wheels for dedicated track use. I cleanded them off well w/ dawn, wiped them down w/ acetone, then sanded w/ 400 grit. I used black gloss epoxy paint from Home Depot to paint them. It should be thicker and tougher like a powder coat; same paint I used for my screens. They aren't fully dry in these pics but I'm happy w/ the results

I've been thinking about doing the exact same thing. The stock rims are quite light, if a little dull looking, and now that I've installed CCWs as my street wheel, spiffing the stockers up seems a worthwhile idea.

When you get them mounted on the car, I'd love to see how they look, if you can manage another pic.

Cheers.

Actually that's exactly what I've done... I have my black powdercoated CCWs for street/track. Now they'll be street only. The problem w/ them is that they're a "busy" wheel. This is a problem when running racing pads that throw off so much corrosive brake dust... it's hard to get it out of all the nooks and crannies.

Once I get some tires mounted up I'll throw up some pics for sure.

Screens? You're not talking about the front or added side screens are you? If so please post pictures. I was considering adding side screens and painting them black.

Thanks,
Gene

That should make for a nice look w/ the black-out screens. Ive been contemplating a little paint job myself. Ive got the spokes and outer rim of my stockers polished so may just paint the rest of the wheel black.

Would like to see some pics once you've got'em mounted up. Looks like a minimum of 5 more HP at the wheels

Phantasms... yeah I painted my front screens and front brake screens... still need to paint my rear brake ones. I added the side cove screens, but one fell out so I might just pull them out as they're hard to see in the coves being black.

5 horses b/s more like 25... the more black I add the faster my car gets.

Car is dirty but this is when my black wheels were first put on.

Closer look at my wheels. Notice Bowtie?

I've had my Z to several cruises since I made the switch and I get a lot of
favorable comments on the wheels.

Anxious to see yours Cobra.

Why on earth did you ruin those beautiful stock wheels? Do tracks demand you to run ugly black wheels?

Uh.. because my car is yellow and I like the yellow/black look much better than yellow/greay. Plus tracking the car gets the wheels super dirty so black will look cleaner.. Take your 20 posts and suck it.

I autocross my MINI S and run black Team Dynamics Pro Racing wheels with Kumhos.

You cannot imagine the attention the car gets and how many inquiries I get about the wheels.

Somehow, black really works.

You need to post a picture of your car Monkie so we can see what kind of taste you have. I just read all 20 of your posts and I can see from them that you don't like anything anyone says or does here. I don't track my car but I've had more favorable comments about my ugly black wheels than with the OEM wheels. Oh yea, I have an extra set of wheels that are OEM with Toyo Proxies mounted on them.

I like the look

Cobra, Please provide an update after the season as to how the paint held up. Just might do the same thing next winter.
