I know many of you think the Bose system is just fine...I don't. So I just got the Z back from the install of my new system...WOW!
The system is as follows:
Alpine 7878 MP3/CD/CDR Player
Boston Pro 6.5 Component Speakers front Doors
Boston RX 57 Coax in Rear
2 Rockford Fosgate Amps
2 Alpine Type R 10 Inch Dual Voice Coil Subs
Stinger Capacitor
Custom box in back, using up the center and one side hole.
Dynamat throughout
Impressions:
The Dynamat makes a huge difference in the amount of noise, it's no Lexus, but alot less tire roar and tranny rattles...still lots of Ti noise though!
This system is exactly as I wanted it, nice clear sound, lots of definition, good solid bass (but not boomy). I love it!!
Any of you on the fence and wondering whether it is worth it??? Jump off and do it!!!

I just Dynamatted my trunk last weekend. It definitely is an improvement. I ordered a JL Audio Stealthbox and 250/1 amp, which should be here next week. It won't be as powerful as your's, but after my last car (around 1000 watts) I decided I should keep it a little more sane.
Rosso Z,
Dynamat is a thin sound-proofing material that you can apply under the carpeting and inside body panels. Check out their website www.dynamat.com. You can buy it at Best Buy, Circuit City, or any decent stereo shop.
I like how the Alpine looks in the dash, nice fit!
I just put a Blaupunkt MP3000 (MP3 & WMA) in my wife's Suburban and now I've got the bug to do it in the Z and my C4 too.
I love having 10 hours of music on one CD!
How do you like the Bostons?

The Dynamat makes a big difference! The install guy showed me that behind our seats there is nothing between us and the axle except for a little metal. It is no wonder you can hear the tranny so much!!! Now I can hear it, but only when I really listen. The stuff is so thin that weight wise, I don't think it is much...
Sound wise, I am lovin it, and the speakers aren't really properly broken in yet. The Boston Compnents really deliver a nice clean sound. You get the highs (but not harshly) and the mid is just right. I really hear more detail in the music, like guitar strings etc.
Javelin- I'll bet that JL will sound great...what are you going to power it with??
pmontelo-MP3 is the only way to go! I just brned one with 150 songs...I haven't even heard them all yet! What I like about the Alpine is that you can have different folders and it will random through all of them. The access time is really quick as well.
