I had it up there as well...187...all I could see was it was a tad higher than 185. Started at 60...but went down to 5th and took it to the top then did six...was kinda slow getting up there but could have doen a tad more. But as my shorts were now becoming very soiled... I shut it down. I took a gradual curve at the top speed and scared the sh*t out of me as I was riding on the shoulder...scared to put more twist into the steering. For those that wish to try this...bring clean shorties!! I thought the 04 Z's were limted out at 176...they must be talking 5th..strange. Oh ya... and this was done at a raceway place...thats it.
I have only had my C6 zo6 for about 2 months, but I did still want to see how fast it would actually go. I hit a tad over 180 mph on a three lane interstate in GA. I would have gone faster but I didn’t know how long it would take to slow down, because I saw that the upcoming traffic was approaching soon. It honestly felt stable. I will do it again; I want to do the 198 thing at least once.
Had my wife's 2002 C5 convertible up to 153. It felt very stable. We were on an arrow straight road in Montana. Had my C6 Z06 up to 147. I passed a slow car and "accidently" left my foot to the floor a little longer than necessary. 4th gear pulls strong. I don't see myself testing the upper limits of the Z.
That 4th gear in the C6 z06 really pulls hard. There is this half mile stretch on many occasions I floor 1, 2, 3, and almost 4th. 140mph+ has started to begin a norm for me. I'm like whats the point of having a Zo6 at 26 years old and not enjoying more than just 2 gears.
On my way back from the museum when I got my Z, I finally hit 1000 miles...I was having fun up to around 100, it was dusk. I came up on a lone MC rider doing about 85-90. I think he had an s and s motor and it was a chopper style bike. He kept up and passed me at 110 on a curve. I could see he was sliding wide and held it into the straight, then I passed him in the straight. Gave me the thumbs up as I passed - never got that in my WRX from a "biker". I was glad to be back in an American ride. That dude had some nads. That's the fastest I've gone since on the street now at 13K... 160 on track lap after lap. I prefer 1g turns and 5-80 over going 150 in a street car, but what a car!
