Seriously tempted to get a Z06 based on the reviews I have read and such like but I have a subjective question. I know that it is quick but does it feel like it?
How does it compare seat of the pants to other quick cars you have driven. Is the acceleration throw you back in the seat quick or just a hard shove?

You definitely have to get a ride in one to experience the acceleration. I took a test drive and was hooked and went out and bought one! Everyone that I take for rides cannot believe that it runs this way from the factory. I call it my "factory hot-rod".
Chalk me up as one that has never had the pleasure of riding in one. Anyone in Atlanta..in-town that'll volunteer for a wanna-be??
The hairiest thing I've ever been in was a Yenko. I expect the Z to be almost as hard off the line but waaaaaaayy more smooth. The Yenko was nutzy..kinda like riding in a runaway bull.
You Get used to anything. When i First got my C5 i thought it was scary fast. Now i flip the rear end out daily and doing 120mph + Is normal .... I seriously think If you drive any amount of power you will get used to it over time .... " were talking sane levals of power "

Fast is relative. So is "scary fast". It's what is your comfort zone.
My stock Z06 is quick. But, 6500 up through 4th is not scary, just quick in a straight line. Cars do "disappear" in the rear view mirror. By the same token, my '71 Z28 4spd with a LT1 is loud and fun, but not as quick.
But, my baseline experience dates back to the 60's & '70's, including driving a 1971 Z28 "Real" Trans-Am car around the Michigan Int'l road course during a pre-race test session, after driving my modified '70 Z28 street car around the circuit. The difference was amazing. Not scary, just amazingly faster and easier. I've also driven the "original" #48 & #50 Greenwood road-racing ZL1 Corvettes during the time John was racing them, and he won Sebring. They were VERY fast for their day.
Worst of all, I was stupid enough to drive my street Z28 125-130 mph on real roads all the time during that era. THAT is scary STUPID. And INSANE after drinking.
So, scary IS relative. Have fun with a Z06. MAKE the traction control save your ass on a mountain road. That will get you scared, BIG-TIME.

wahoo,
I work in Duluth and drive mine only on sunny days (probably tomorrow). If you are in the area, I'd be happy to give you a ride. PM me for more info, if interested.
As far as being fast, I must say that this car always makes me grin. Fast is relative, as already noted. But what I really notice is how quickly the speedo climbs. Not a lot of drama and/or noise, it just GOES. I can never get enough of the power rush.
what kind of car are you coming from? For me, I was coming off a car that could hang with E46 M3s on the highway, so obviously the Z is much faster... Anyway.. The first time I got on it, I actually scared the hell out of myself.. Now after a week Im finding the weak spots in the power band and thinking, maybe I should start saving up for a blower fund.. You will get use to the power..
Honestly, you really need to go out and drive one, I was debating between a 380awhp Mitsubishi Evo and the Z.. I was leaning heavily towards the Evo b.c of awd, but after driving a modded ZR1 which made about 360rwhp, I was hooked.. The rumble of the V8, the power delivery, and the lack of turbo lag was beautiful.. Shocked the hell out of me too that I ended up with a Z because I was really set on the Evo.. Definitely go test drive one, and find out for yourself..
Also, to add to that, my reasoning for wanting the Z was because I wanted something that was very close to perfection in stock form.. You really can't beat the Z for what it is.. Its really an awesome car, the more I get use to it the more I enjoy it.. I have a lot of friends that do track events and Im really looking forward to taking the Z out there.. again, it all comes down to what you want from a car.. Me, I wanted something that was fast, and was track ready in stock form which the Z seems to be from what people have told me... So far, Im in love..

To me the Z is refined quick, snaps you back and gets you to 150 real quick but not scary IMO. But then i grew up in the 60's muscle car era where it was straight line quick without handling and brakes. Guess it all depends what you have been use to driving over the years. Of all the vettes i have owned over the years, none come close to the Z for all around performance out of the box.
