"How to turn QS to EB" or "Don't let those guys touch your car!"
Today was the day that I was picking up my QS/black '03. I'd already done some of the paperwork, the dealer was cleaning the car and I was supposed to pick it up, sign the rest of the papers tonight.
I got there and realized that the car was hammered. There were scratches all over it. The trunk had scratches so deep you could catch a fingernail in them. The speaker grills were scratched and nicked from people getting in the car, along with the door sills being scraped up. There were 2 fisheyes in the front bumper and the nail in the coffin was a deep gouge on the *inside* of the rear window.
Apparently one of the clean up guys really did a number on this car. Anyway, I told the dealer that I obviously wasn't buying that car. He said he'd find me something else.
Well I'm bummed and the wife and I head out for dinner. After grabbing a bite to eat, we decided to drive around to some other dealers (2 local dealers supposedly searched everywhere for EB and QS cars with black int. for me). I figure it's useless, but the wife sees I'm disappointed that my car was screwed up.
We pulled into Ourisman in Rockville, MD and they have an Electron Blue with black interior sitting out front! HOLY CRAP! I got excited, but then thought, "well, it's probably already sold.". I walked up to the sales dude and asked about the car.
Salesdude - "It's available, do you want me to pull it around for you to look at it and take it for a drive?"
Me - "drool"
Wife - "Yes, he would."
Long story made short - they had me in the car in < 1hr (same deal/discount as my other dealer), including cleaning it (9pm at night!) and pulling it into the showroom so that I could look at it under the flourescent lights!
I was EXTREMELY happy with the service and I'm sure they were happy with the quick sale.
Hey Wayne,
Great choice in colors, what a story. I guess the lotboy was looking for another job from the first dealer. You were lucky to find the EB, I had to go to Ohio to grab mine. Maybe see you cruising sometime, we have a few EB's in the near area. Enjoy your ride.
Mike
Cool deal for you!! It's hard to believe that the other dealer would try to deliver a vehicle in that condition...the cleaning guy would be looking for a job! Congrats on your EB. I own a Black Z and love it but sometimes I think....hummm maybe I should have gotten Blue...it is an awesome color.
True blue is one nice color and now there is no more being painted that color at BG. Things worked out well for you thanks to the lot guy doing a # on the QS. You will have to go back and thank him.
I just spoke with the original dealer about purchasing the car last night. I didn't want them working any more to find me another car. They were pretty rude to me on the phone and cut the conversation short. The sales dude was a friend of my accountant, so I'm not going to slam him here (or send a letter to the owner of the dealership), but it goes without saying that I won't be recommending them to anyone!
I should have asked them why they couldn't find a car that was < 10 miles from their dealership, when they supposedly "searched all dealers within 500 miles" when trying to find me an EB car.
